General Discussion / Inbox troubles.
April 06, 2007, 09:03:10 PM
Hey all.  There's something up with my inbox.  A while back, MagmarFire sent me a PM with a ton of  :P in it.  After that, I couldn't get to my inbox (I don't hold MagmarFire responsible; he didn't know that was going to happen either).  The load bar on the bottom of my browser would show up, but the page for the inbox wouldn't load.

I can still send PMs, but after I hit the send button, the inbox won't load, so I have to take a link back to the TDC Forums main page.  Which takes a long time to load.  And I rather not go through that hassle.

I'm only posting this thread now because a few people have tried PMing me recently.  I ask that you find a different way to get in contact with me.  You can find my AIM and MSN username in my profile (please let me know who are so I don't have to play the guessing game).  If you want to e-mail me, e-mail me at mcbridenm@vcu.edu if you'd like a response, because I can't gurantee that I'll be able to reply if you use the e-mail in my profile.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you.  But I prefer my sanity over yours. :-*

Links / Looking for Group
April 03, 2007, 10:06:12 PM
Hmm, I didn't keep my Nabooru avatar long enough for someone to say it's getting stale.  Is something wrong with me?  Eh, don't care.

Anywho, my avatar comes from Looking for Group, a webcomic I found recently.  I love it.  Might be because I can somewhat relate because of D&D.  Might be because Richard is funny.  Yeah, it's probably the latter. :D

My mom sent me this e-mail, and I thought I'd share it with you all, making a game out of it.  I'm going to paste a few lists below.  Find your month of birth, day you were born, and what color shirt you're wearing at the time you're reading this.  Then put all of them together.  I suppose you can do this as many times as you want, but it might get a bit repetitive soon, so I'd recommend taking birthdays of your friends and family and use the color shirt your wearing if you're in the mood to post in this topic again.  As for myself, I had lunch with my science teacher because I hate myself.

Pick the month you were born:
January------I kicked
February-----I loved
March---------I smoked
April-----------I dry humped
May-----------I choked on
June----------I murdered
July-----------I did the Macarena ! With
August-------I had lunch with
September---I danced with
October------I sang to
November----I yelled at
December----I ran over

Pick the day (number) you were born on:
1-------a birdbath
2-------a monster
3-------a phone
4-------a fork
5-------a Mexican
6-------a gangster
7-------my cell phone
8-------my dog
9-------my best friends' boyfriend
10-------my neighbor
11-------my science teacher
12-------a banana
13-------a fireman
14-------a stuffed animal
15-------a goat
16-------a pickle
17-------your mom
18---- ---a spoon
19-------myself
20-------a baseball bat
21-------a ninja
22-------Chuck Norris
23-------a noodle
24-------a squirrel
25-------a football player
26-------my sister
27-------my brother
28-------an ipod
29-------a permanent marker
30-------a llama
31-------A homeless guy

Pick the color of shirt you are wearing:
White--------because I'm cool like that
Black---------because that's how I roll.
Pink----------because I'm NOT a homosexual.
Red----------because the voices told me to.
Blue----------because I'm sexy and I do what I want
Green---------because I hate myself.
Purple--------because I'm cool.
Gray----------because I was drunk
Yellow--------because someone offered me 1,000,000 dollars
Orange-------because I hate my family.
Brown--------because I was high.
Other (such as a striped shirt)---------because I'm a ninja.
None----------because I cant control myself.

N64 Games / A passing reference to Zelda...
November 29, 2006, 08:00:43 PM
I could tell you the tale of the many webcomics I read until I eventually discovered this one.  However, I'm not going to; too lazy.  Instead, here is a part of the newest webcomic I'm reading.  This particular strip alludes to our favorite princess in the Zelda games, Princess Zelda of OoT.  Enjoy.

Edit:  Only having one class at 4 pm rocks.  From the webcomic above comes this other reference to OoT.

Here's what I think of TDC.

Oops, wrong link.  Here's the correct link.

The following is a quote from the list of rules Jack has posted in the News and Announcements board of the forums.

Quote8. Proper grammar and spelling please. The occasional number-as-letter substitute is fine, but if that's all you post with, you make it exceptionally hard for others to read your posts. This is more common courtesy than anything.

Really, please do make an effort to use proper spelling and grammar.  I am tired of coming on and finding sentences like "its a good thing i ate b4 goin to that rehaersal"  I understand that there will be occasional mistakes, but this is getting ridiculous.  If you're not sure about a sentence, type it up in Microsoft Word and use the spell check.  It even checks the grammar.  It won't hurt you to take that extra amount of time to check on something you're not sure about.

Oracle Series / What say you?
October 11, 2006, 09:05:43 PM
Take a look at this screenshot from the title sequence of Oracle of Seasons.  Who is that horse Link is riding and what is the structure in the background?  Many of you will say it's Epona and Hyrule Castle.  However, I quite disagree with this.

One, that could be any random horse.  Only the horse in OoT and MM was given the name Epona.  Any other horses seen in the series are not given names.  But whenever most people in the Zelda community see Link riding a horse, they assume the horse is named Epona.  But the horse could very well be named Epona; we don't know, and we certainly can't find out.

Also, I highly doubt that building in the distance is Hyrule Castle.  Granted, it is a castle.  But why would Hyrule Castle be in the middle of a forest, where a large majority of Hyruleans wouldn't be able to get to if they had a problem?  It could be a vacation castle for the Royal Family, but Hyrule Castle I think not.

Chatboard / That's one strong cap
October 10, 2006, 09:41:56 PM
For no particular reason, I was looking for screenshots from Super Mario 64, and I came across one of Mario using the Wing Cap.  And I started to think how strong that cap must be.  Not only does it have to lift Mario up into the air, but it has to stay on Mario's head while up in the air.

So, anyone else has some random thing to say about a video game?

General Discussion / Something's odd

I was talking to Zelda Veteran over AIM recently, and he said he wasn't coming back.  Does anyone know what's going on?  I'm worried about him.

General Discussion / Inspirational quotes
September 22, 2006, 06:31:32 PM
I remember seeing a topic for funny quotes a while back, but not one for the more inspirational sayings.  So I figured I'd start one.  I have a whole notebook for them, and I'll start off with some of my favorite ones.

"Forgiveness is not an occasional act:  it is an attitude."--Martin Luther King, Jr.
"He who is afraid to ask is ashamed of learning."--Unknown
"The weak can never forgive.  Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong."--Mohandas Gandhi
"If knowledge can create problems, it is not through ignorance that we can solve them."--Isaac Asimov
"I can accept failure, everyone fails at something.  But I can't except not trying."--Michael Jordan

General Discussion / On School
September 19, 2006, 09:34:29 PM
School is now under session.  For me, I've been going to classes since August 24.  For others, they've been going to classes since September 6.  A great deal of you have been complaining about it.  And I'm sick of it.

Many complain that the teachers are evil.  No.  Teachers are not evil.  They are people trying to do their job, and students disrupting the class prevent them from doing it.  It is within their power to punish disruptive students, and a good teacher is going to remove the disruption so the other students may be able to learn.

Others complain that the teachers are bad at teaching.  I have a few bad teachers myself, but I'm not letting that stop me.  Try to bear with them.  If you need to, get tutoring.  My high school offered tutoring during study halls, and my college has free tutoring I can take advantage of if I need it.  I don't see why your school won't offer free tutoring.  You can even get together with your fellow classmates and see if they're getting the material, and if they are, I bet you they will help you if you ask politely.

Some of you just hate learning.  Well, suck it up.  Someday, you may actually need to use what your school is trying to teach you.  Besides, you should be learning something new everyday.

Then there are those of you who don't like who you have to learn with.  Well, ignore these people.  If they are disruptive, the teacher will take care of them.  If the teacher doesn't, let a vice principal or the principal know.  They will talk to both teacher and student, and if you ask them not to reveal your name, then they won't.  Also keep in mind that these kids are going to be spending the rest of their lives flipping burgers or taking on some other minimum wage job while you're holding some high end job because you gradutated from high school (some of you may have graduated from college).

Sometimes you may feel like you're not learning anything.  Well, don't give up.  If you give up, then you won't learn anything.  If you fail, then try again.  Ernest Holmes once said, "Not failure, but low aim is a crime."  It has also been said, "Fall seven times, stand up eight."  Then there's Vidal Sassoon, who said, "The only place where success comes before work is a dictionary."  Work hard and don't give up, and you'll do fine.

Finally, also keep this in mind:  "What you get out of school depends on what you put into it."--Miss Wormwood, Calvin and Hobbes.  If you put no effort whatsoever into any aspect of school, then it is going to suck horribly for you.  Then you'll have no one to blame but yourself.  But if you put your absolute best into everything, then school will be something you look back on with fondness.  What's it going to be?  Is school going to suck because you did nothing in your power to improve it?  Or is it going to be one of the best years of your life because you made an effort to make it better?  It's your choice.

Okay, here's the disclaimer again.  If you cannot handle disgusting stories, then do not post here.  I'll be touching upon a very delicate (okay, maybe it's not that delicate) subject here, so don't yell at me if you don't like what you see.  I gave you a fair warning.

The Story of Big Joe
Big Joe was a crane operator during the construction of the Sydney Harbor Bridge.  Big Joe had to be in the crane all day every day, shoveling coal into the fire to keep the crane running.  Well, Big Joe couldn't leave the crane, and, as all humans do, he needed to take a crap every now and then.  So he took his shovel, did his business on it, and used the droppings as fuel for the fire.

Now then, Big Joe also needed to eat (which kept him from starving and provided him with some fuel).  So his wife would pack him raw sausages for his lunch every day.  Big Joe didn't have any pots or pans to cook the sausage with, so he took his only shovel and cooked his sausages with them.

In honor of Big Joe, Hard Rock Cafe in Sydney, Australia serves the Big Joe Sausage Sandwich.  One day, I shall return to HRC and get that sandwich so I can pay my respects to Big Joe.

General Discussion / A little something to think about
September 10, 2006, 07:59:24 PM
Let's just see what you think of this little poem, written on the tomb of an Anglican Bishop in Westminster Abby (circa 1100 AD):

QuoteWhen I was young and fee and imagination had no limits,
I dreamed of changing the world.

As I grew older and wiser,
I discovered the world would not change,
So I shortened my sights somewhat and decided
To change my country.
But it too seemed immovable.

As I grew into my twilight years,
In one last desperate attempt,
I settled for changing my family,
Those closest to me, but alas,
They ould have none of it.

And now, as I lie on my deathbed,
I suddenly realise:
If only I had changed myself,
Then by example I might have changed my family,
From their inspiration and encouragement
I would have been able to better my country, and who knows

I may have changed the world.

Kudos to anyone who learns from the realization the bishop had as he was dying.

Chatboard / Move in: Successful
August 19, 2006, 05:52:57 PM
Well, I've been at my college for about 5 hours now.  I successfully moved in and my roommate should be in tomorrow.  I hate to post and run, but I'm letting my friend use my ethernet cable until he can get on.  So I'll see you all tomorrow.  (Oh, and if you can post this on Zelda Sanctuary, I'd appreciate that, Sora).

I know it's not Photoshop; it's a photo touch-up program on my computer.  But I think these pics are neat:

Here's Hryule Field; looks like an old photograph, huh?

The rest I have to link to:

A photonegative of an Iron Knuckle.  I applied a solarized effect for this one.

An antique Iron Knuckle.  I applied an antique effect to this one twice.

An Iron Knuckle using a sepia (whatever that is) effect.  I think it sort of looks like a cut-out from an antique photograph.

Links / Zelda Radio
July 17, 2006, 06:26:00 PM
Have you ever wondered how I sound like?  Well, you can get a gist if you go to Zelda Radio and download the 6th show; Ice interviewed me for the show.  I think I sound a little deeper than I am in real life, and completely horrible, but it's not too bad.

If you have already heard of Zelda Radio, good for you.  If you haven't, go back to the archives and listen from the beginning.  Ice is an awesome host, and the show is fantastic.

Links / Hi no Seijin's site
June 17, 2006, 07:35:01 AM
I finally have my site up.  It's called Tal'Kipach Risthan.  It's a site for my Zelda fanfics.  It doesn't have much yet, but I will be putting up as much as I can the first chance I get.

It is a forum, so you can join, but member posting is severely limited.  You can only post on the Reviews boards, and only if you are a registered member.  So please don't register unless you plan on reviewing or want you works posted.  To know how to do that, see my rules on the site.

Also, does anyone know where I can get a good image for Tal'Kipach Risthan?  It translate into "The Stone Tower," and I've tried Google, but to no avail.
