Not Link- Rinku is how Link transliterates from Japanese. Someone schooled in English and Japanese would view them as the exact same name.

Wait, I saw this before.

u is placed after nouns that don't have vowels after them.

R and L are very similar, I think.

Yes. In Japanese there is no difference between the letters "R" and "L", which leads to the English translations being a little off. It's fine with actual words and such, but with names, not so much.

And the u after noun thing sounds plausible. In Japan's version of those Get A Mac commercials (you know, "I'm a PC", "I'm a Mac"), Mac is Makku.

It's true, Shonem Jump (a very popular manga magazine) once had a section to teach you how to write your name in the Japanese writing style for foreign words. (forgot name) It said u is placed after consanants that don't have a vowel after them.
