Actually, Navi can not be called annoying. Maybe a little too eager to help. She's the ONLY companion/guide Link ever had that wasn't rude or wanted Link to do something. Everyone else was with him because they wanted something. Navi was with Link for the same reasons as he was, to help people they have nothing to do with because the big boss(es) told them to. And no matter what you think of her, she's always been kind to Link. A kind of kind that I knew I missed the first time I saw Midna.

In all fairness to the other sidekicks Link has had (with the possible exception of Midna since I haven't played TP yet), they did end up becoming Link's friends at the end of the game.  And I think Tatl actually complimented Link after Woodfall Temple.

Oh, I didn't say they were rude etc. till the end. They all learned to respect Link or were prepared to show a nicer side. But what do you expect if he does what they want him to do and does nothing that could possibly make someone dislike him (well, except for the baddies). It's only a natural process they will start acting nicer.

However, Navi has been nice, without expecting anything, from the start. She's always been humble, nice and helpful.

I really don't think Midna is rude..at the beginning it may seem like that, but it's only part of the image she's trying to keep up. In the cutscene when you go to Hyrule Castle for the second time it's more apparent--she cares only for Link's well being.

Dude, she herself said she couldn't care less about Link, Zelda and the rest of the Light World in the beginning. But that she learned to respect them after she had seen what Link and Zelda were prepared to do and sacrifice. That was not an image, that was true. It wasn't untill the second time in the castle that she changed her mind, and therefor attitude.

Somewhere at the end, between entering Hyrule Castle and her leaving the Light World. I'm not entirely sure when she said it, but since I'm replaying it, I can give the specific moment in two or three days.
