I'm not the queen of videogame design (maybe it's because I've never taken a class). But HTML coding and stuff scares me half to death.  ;D And I assume videogame design has alot to do with coding. But If I were to make a game with just my imagination, it might be a pretty good game. :)

Maybe if you were programming the game, you would need extensive knowledge of coding, but video game designers work on things like battle systems, magic systems, character design, etc.  They should have sufficient programming skills, but I'm not sure how much that comes into play for the designers.
