Chapter 2 – Uneasy nights

It was the night before Elyons 17th birthday and a torrential storm raged. Forks of lightning pierced the black sky and thick sheets of rain hammered the ground. Elyon tossed and turned in her bed and the sheets wrapped tight around her so she could hardly breathe.
Flashes of a nightmare rushed through her head.
A dark shadowy forest filled with roaming creatures of the night. A pool of white hot magma in an underground mine swimming, with glowing red monsters. A crystal clear lake swarming with silvery flickering beasts. A mountain surrounded in clouds of icy mist. And finally a woman lying in front of a huge stone statue, a tear rolling down her face.
Elyon woke up in a cold sweat, beads of perspiration dripping down from her forehead. Glancing out of her window she saw the rising Sun cast a red glow over the serenity of Hyrule field. She wearily stepped out of her bed and checked herself in the mirror. Her usually sleek red hair was ruffled and untidy and her large blue eyes were blurred. She washed, dressed and headed down to the Stable. Luckily, the weather had cleared up and Elyon led the horses' cattle and cuccos out into the yard.
She had a good few hours before lunch so she saddled up Farisee and headed out to Hyrule field. She jumped over fences and as usual galloped straight over to Gerudo valley. She was greeted by Lanka, a Gerudo guard whom she knew well.
" Hello Elyon" she said in the slow drawl of the Gerudos "I am very sorry but you cannot come through to the fortress today, I shall explain later."
   "Ok I guess" said Elyon.
The Gerudos always welcomed her in, what was happening today? She raced around Hyrule field and beat her record by 2 seconds.
She looked into the sky and noticed the Sun was almost at its peak, that meant it was nearly Lunch and her Father had promised her a new saddle and bridle for Farisee, as a special 17th birthday surprise.
17, she thought, the same age as the Hero of legend. She played with this thought as she rode back to the Ranch.
