I'm not a Cohort, but to beat Horsehead, all you have to do is jump up and hit his head several times.  It may help to build up exp. points and level up on your attack strength.

There's the classic NES series for the GBA, and GBA games can be played on the DS.  That's how I played Zelda II and am now currenty playing the first Metroid (and could use a walkthrough reall badly; if you know a good one, please PM me the link).
