I have something to add about the intellectual thing. this is a very well thought out addition, and worthy to be added to the speech.

if you have intellectual as your caption, and constantly say you are intellectual, being able to spell intellectual among many other things is a very important skill.

Alright, so I'm getting the general ida around here that most would like a rule against it, with 2 exceptions so far. I really should have made it a poll. If anyone wants, I (or someone else) can create a poll topic for this. Oh, and i appreciate you telling Jack of my concern, ZV.

I don't want to ban debates, that would be foolish and would make it boring here. But religion should be, because it is more touchy than anything else.

Like I said, if i were there when the topic were created, i would've had warnings or been banned.

I'm with the no-debating thing, too. Debates may be an argument over things that are significant to the world, but they are still arguments.

The "debate" that Sabata started was a discussion (well, it never really was entirely a discussion; it was an explanation) that degraded itself to a heated argument, which is how a lot of debates end up as.

If you're an "intellectual," you need to at least give your opinion around WITHOUT insulting/bashing on others, as well as keeping the status quo at a calm level. Did Sabata's topic do that? No, it did not! In fact, the status quo was never at Level 1 to begin with, which just about every civilized discussion should be!

so we're pretty much banning religion on these forums...not just debates, religious discussions as well? atleast that's what i'm seeing.

i'ma still gonna go down with my biblical ship. i might not be religious in terms of praying and following church doctrine but i do have a lil heart for these discussions...

I probably should have said this in my first post, but we should allow religous debates. If somebody does get out of line, they can be taken care of. I have many religion debates on other forums and have never once insulted somebody, except for hypocrites, they really annoy me. religion is important, it comes up in life, and we need to know where we stand and why. otherwise, when it comes up in real life, what will we do?

Well as I said in my original post, EVERYTHING should be open to talk about, as long as people follow rules and respect each other and back up their posting with intelligence. That is what forums are for, discussing things. Of course we mostly talk about Zelda and games here but we should be free to talk about anything as long as protocol is followed.

I love debates, but the religious ones do seem to cause problems (this is a good example of a debat- calm, and a good discussion).

Maybe if we just make a whole other section for debates, it would make those that don't wanna see them happy, and it would make those that love to debate happy too. That way, you can choose to debate or not, and you can choose to go in and possbily be wanred/banned, or not go in at all.

I guess we could theoretically place a Debates section in another standalone part of 'community'. But keep in mind, THIS IS A ZELDA FORUM NOT A DEBATE FORUM.

In other words, It'd be perfectly fine if a new section were created to exist alongside Chatboard and General Discussion. However we must be warned in case things get too out of hand. I recommend that Jack create a new subset of rules governing the Debate Board. Since it is in fact, a departure from what is  on the majority of the other boards.

You know if your suggesting new threads you might as well suggest putting in a Movie/Music/TV thread and a Sports Thread cause I have noticed alot of threads in General Discussion that fall into any of the 4 that should have been in Chatboard (but I think people want post counts). So if a Debate thread is created (or if not) there should be seperate threads for talking about TV shows/Music/Movies/Sports. If anything it would make things more organized.
