Living in the trees.

I spend a lot of time poking around Link's house and wishing it were mine. How awesome would it be to have a home built inside a living tree?
Incidentally, I found this.

It looks like old hippies making weird shapes with small trees, which is essentially just what it is. However, the interesting part is, they're starting to do little tests with how compatible certain home features are with living trees, such as plumbing. Fixing plumbing and waterpipes to pass through trees! Hmm...useful insulation, or a pain to repair?
Currently there are only a few canopy-type "houses" created out of numerous small trees, such as ficus and birch. However, projects to create actual buildings have been on-and-off underway throughout history. If you check out this photo, a German concept from the 1930's, you can see there've been some pretty creative plans floating around for a while. Too bad it takes so long to get working that just an experiment could take a lifetime!
That's all the information I've got, though...doesn't look like any homes within one big tree, unfortunately. Ah well, maybe there's something somewhere yet to be found.
Thought I'd share.
...Thoughts? :3

Goosey

OMG - It would KICK BUTT to live in a tree! The only problem is I wouldn't like to have all the leaves fall off and it being bald and ugly for winter. ;)

Baka Nezumi

Those are some really cool ideas. There was an article about it in my newspaper.

As long as it doesn't harm the tree, I think it's cool. Still not as cool as a house on the water or at the top of a mountain, but still cool :).

Goosey-- that's...a good point. :B

Lady Nintendo-- What about a house in a mangrove tree on the water? It's the best of both worlds, although maybe a little swampy.

Baka Nezumi--  :-[ Your newspaper is awesome.

Mr. bubbles

That would be cool. But alas all the trees in my neighborhood are practically dead. ??? ??? 8)

There's a little area near the beach near our house, and the sand/muck/dirt has eroded away the roots of a really big oak... I've fallen asleep and hidden there quite a few times.

But... plumbing? In a tree? Wow, that's awesome.
