Yeah, it's unfortunately becoming more like that everywhere. I'm not sure if it's because of the blending of gamers and non-gamers that's becoming more common or what. It seems like an increasingly smaller percentage of RPers are actually treating the RP with respect lately. Noticed it on HA2, Runescape...blah.

Mmm... I don't think it's anything new really... It's always been that way, there's always a larger group of idiots who are going to simply not care that much other then to fulfil their own personal fantasies and show how much better they are then everyone else. We are all, afterall, ultimately insecure little fleshy bag... things. I think that blaming it on non-gamers is a little bit like chosing hamsters as your scape goat for why economy has gone boom. There's no real connection, how many non gamers do you know that get into rping? At all? And those few that do and somehow manage to cling onto their non gaming status, how many focus enough to type epic length rants about how wonderful they are and how foolish we mere mortals are compared to super l33t dave's might axe of general decapitation? That being but one example of the many reasons rps can be undesirable...

On a more positive note, currently going through a free trail of wow to check if it's worth coming back to and seems fairly fun at the moment. Not sure if it's redeemed itself enough to be worth my hard earned cash yet though.

There is this thing called god-modding, were if you post a emote that says " Dave slices Clint's head off with his mighty axe" isn't fair. You have to say " Dave slashes at Clint's head" for it to give them a chance to retaliate. And I do agree that they're are some mary sues, but any RP is bound to bring some. In WoW, people wont RP with you unless you follow by the community's rules. ( Which are fair, btw)

Yeah, I remember the terms; I used to rp years back on a forum. Might get back into. It used to be fun, but it was kind of ruined for me when the previous admin left and was replaced by an old mod. Who really didn't enforce the rules at all, and I was stuck there unable to do anything when all my rps were taken over by people just running in and god modding. I got sick of having to ignore people like that, and in the end it just sort of ruined the fun of it. As for Mary Sues, I'm not too fussed by it. Bad characterisation is something you can deal with, it's when other people start messing with someone else's character that it irritates me. Or (and this is my personal favourite) people who would respond to conversation with an enormous OOC message, detailing they're current status and how they felt and whether they were sleepy this morning or not and how they felt about rping in general. And then finish it with:

"IC: hi."

Yeah, WoW RP= Best RP EVER.

The lore opens up so many possibilities.

God Moding was a problem on HA2 for a while as well. Still is sometimes, but we crack down on it. Usually make a group decision to godmode the godmoder's death :p

A lot of people just don't take the RP seriously and respect it for what it is.

Here are realms that I play that have found really good.

Skywall: Medium-High Population. Normal. The Alliance people are nice here, as well as Horde. But there is a bigger Alliance population.

Kil'Jaeden: High Population. PvP. You can only choose one faction on a PvP server. So if you make a Horde char, you cant make an Alliance as well. I play Horde, and the PvP is excellent, as well as the players. Good well balanced Horde and Alliance population.

Wrymrest Accord: Medium-High Population. RP. This is one of the most balanced out and rule abiding RP realms you'll find. Horde is great for long-time commitment RPing. And Alliance is better for spontanious RP. Either way, the RP is pretty top notch.

Always remember, no matter where you go in WoW, your still on the internet. There will always be a handful of jerks, but thats what an ignore list is for! Hope I was able to help.
