Actually, Marin IS Zelda, so she shouldn't really be there. The manual says that she resembles Zelda, and being the dream world Koholint is it's obvious then that she has to be more or less identical.

To me, Zelda is the only likely candidate. She's not only the only female character with a big role in all of the games (even those she barely appear in. Lik would have never survived MM without the Ocarina of Time, which Zelda gave him), and the one the series is named after (reason number one Link is meant to get together with her^_^), but also the Princess! I really like it when the hero gets the Princess.
