What I mean is that parents shouldn't be so afraid of being too mean to their kids. If they do something huge, maybe a really strict punishment is called for. I've seen some really retarded crap.

Beaten at that young of an age IS child abuse.  It's unnecessary and proves (above all else) a lack of creativity and intelligence on the parent's part.  There are many ways, at that age, to positively reinforce good behavior while at the same time punishing the bad-- without all the terror of a beat-down.

And ZV:  A lamp?  Wow.  The worst thing I was hit with was a spiked belt (ala Kiss)-- but I had that one coming.  I practically destroyed this kid's clavicle with a pencil when he said some unspeakable things about my mom.  Years of therapy and Marine training got my anger issues out, though.

Agreed. ZV, seriously... You should call the cops. That kind of thing shouldn't go unpunished. I can't think of anything that's punishable enough to have a chair broken over your head about.

Actually yes I have been beaten at the age of 4, and no, I'm not damaged.

I don't even care. It straightened me out. I hold nothing against my father, he only did it so I would stop being a pest.
Besides, I don't even know what age ZV got beat, but I'm assuming that if he is old enough to remember, he was old enough then.
And yes, technically it would be child abuse, by law, but by my standards, no, if used appropriately.
And this is comming from a 14 year old.

Also, if he's able to laugh about, then it's not like its traumatizing. He didnt come out as a deranged person, nothing really bad come from the beatings.

No, I don't think that this is taking it too seriously. If he can laugh about being beaten with a lamp or a chair, then something is seriously wrong. That's why I recommended calling the cops: from what I've heard here, his life is endangered.

Its his adoptive mom, and everyone hates her.
She's got crooked cops on her side, so the police are moot.
David never deserves any of it either.
One time recently, she kicked him out of the house which is illegal on her part. Buuuut, thanks to her cops, she filed him as a runaway instead, which is illegal on his part.
Then, when he came home, she slammed him in the face with the Imperial Star Destroyer that he built, and hot-glued together out of Legos. It was his baby, and he was really protective over it. To make matters worse for him, he was saving up money to buy his girlfriend something for her birthday. He had $60 saved up and hidden, and that demon found it, and took it all.
