Oh, SATA, how I do loathe thee. Thou have been the cause of mine pain these past months, and all due to a lack of recognition! Thou hast burned me beyond all repair, now I shall burn thee!

For some reason, SATA Hard Drives aren't recognized by (most) XP install discs

So that's what the problem was?

problems in order of occurence.

1. Recieve Laptop, virus somehow gets onto laptop.
2. computer goes screwy on normal mode, retreats to Safe Mode.
3. I decide to try to use an XP install disk, disk doesn't recognize hard drive.
4. Wait anxiously as computer goes down tubes.
5. Get helpful hint from a certain forum on what to do (after quite a few 'so-so' helpful suggestions) and FINALLY get the XP disk to recognize hard drive.
6. Reinstalling Drivers. Keep in mind when reformatting a computer that you KNOW where to get the drivers for all the hardware, otherwise you won't be able to get back to where you were (internet, sound, etc...) anyway, somehow managed to get proper Wireless Driver
7. Download rest of drivers
8. Finally fixed!
