Silly Cohort.  Owlbears have a Challenge Rating (CR) of 4.  I have an Effective Character Level (ECL) of 10.  I can fight off two owlbears if need be....There are only two, right?  Three or more might not end too well for me.  In which case, I either kite them or run away like the Hounds of Hell are after me and get a group.

Ugh, this is why it's a good thing dragon disciple has Spot as a class skill.  I need more ranks in Spot so I can see stuff more often. :-*

Wrong.  I know dimension hop.  I cast it on myself.  I go 25 ft away from the closest owlbear.  I quick cast it to go another 25 feet.  I now have 50 feet between me and the closest owlbear.  They move their 30 feet.  I start taking run actions, which lets me move 4 times my speed.  In one turn, I have 120 feet between me and the closest owlbear.  If need be, I can run away from owlbears and live to tell the tale.
