The Triforce (three triangles in a pyramid shape) resembles the goddesses, and their divine powers. Thr fourth is carried by the red phoenix, the protecor of the Triforce and Hyrule.

But, if he carries the last bit back to the Triforce, it becomes whole, and resembles one whole shard of the triforce. Which basically could be Power, Wisdom or courage.
Or it could mean the unify of the three goddesses becoming one, a god much like todays kristianity.

It might also be a geometrically design on the shield, based on theories the Hylian people might've had. None of them would understand the triforce, but it's quite clear they see the negative shape the triforce creates. A Triforce shard pointing down. So it might just be something the developers took into consideration, that the hylians just theorized when creating the shield.

But that's all boring, we dont want the "there might be nothing" theory, so let's move on.

It's a shard pointing down, I had my mind on a thought for a while, the last piece resembles Hyrule itself. Also, when united with the triforce it becomes one mass, ONE shard of the triforce, which might mean it's Hyrule
OR it's a shard of power given to The Red Phoenix, - the protector of Hyrule.

Ans who would fit more the role of protector of Hyrule, than the King of Red Lions? The Kind of Hyrule?
It is said he had Hyrule sealed away, to prevent people from taking the Triforce. And from beyond this borders Agahnim once came.... This is somewhere on this site I think, just dont remember where.

So it might be that the fourth triforce shard is not a shard of power, but a symbol of the power given to the protector of the triforce and Hyrule to do just that - protect it.
So I ask, who IS the protector of Hyrule? Link? Zelda? The Kind? Or perhaps a Sheikah, which also is a protective element, vital in all the discusions of Zelda.

You had just say very interesting things, but all this is confusing

. There are so many possibilities: the red phoenix is helmaroc king and as he caught aryll or tryed to catch tetra / zelda this symbolizes the triforce down of the phoenix, but the shield already existed in OoT which I think disproves the theory. For myself I think it could be part that is missing in the complete triforce, in the center of it because this space is as well turn upside down, it could be a physicall piece of triforce or just a symbol as you told, and also if you read the all the posts in this topic the ideas of ordon are really interesting.

A phoenix is a burning bird, so Helmaroc cannot be a phoenix. A roc is a very different type of mythic bird, anyway.

I personally don't think there's a fourth piece of the Triforce, but there might be a fourth Goddess. My guess is that the fourth Goddess is the one who gave the complete Triforce the power to make the dreams of its wielder come true.
