You know what's interesting? The original Honda Civic from the 1970s gets better gas mileage than most of the "fuel-efficient" cars of today: around 40 MPG.

Because we thought that gas was gonna be cheap forever, that's why.

That's also why we had an explosion of SUVs during the late 90's, early 2000's

Look, SOME fuel efficient cars get SLIGHTLY less mileage than a car would back then. But the fuel efficient hybrids keep getting better, and they will continue to get better as time goes on.
