It has been a while since I have been active on these forums.  Upon my return, I noticed that there is a lot of rule bending going on here.  I have seen a lot of convo-posting and posts of little relevence to the topic (spam), a lot of stuff that wasn't tolerated a year ago.  I am requesting that everyone please read over the rules and remind yourself of what they are.  We can make this place a lot cleaner and easier for new members to feel welcome.

Hi everyone and welcome to the Desert Colossus Forums (version 2.0)! I've used a new forum software, YaBB, that is relatively much simpler than the old one, so working with it should not be much harder than before.

Moreover, I've added barebones forum sections throughout here, so if you have ideas for new ones, please use the Instant Message feature of this board to suggest them to me.

Anyways, as for the rules, they are quite simple and are as follows:

1. Be civil. No insults, put-downs, slurs, etc.

2. Be helpful.

3. No profanity.

4. (The "joe" rule) NO SPAMMING. Spamming is replying to every single topic with a silly one-word response or reply that has no relevance to the topic at hand.

5. When replying in a topic, keep your reply relevant to the topic.

6. The forums are not for conversations. If you must communicate one on one with someone, use PMs. That's what they are there for. If only you and one person are posting in the same topic for six replies or so, and the topic of conversation has moved away from the original topic, then it's a conversation.

7. Don't do anything that will stretch the page. Examples include a huge line of dashes or periods, or just pasting the URL of a link into the reply box. Rather, break up long lines of stuff with periods, and use the URL button on the reply page (it's the one with the globe).

8. Proper grammar and spelling please. The occasional number-as-letter substitute is fine, but if that's all you post with, you make it exceptionally hard for others to read your posts. This is more common courtesy than anything.

9. This is less a rule than a suggestion--it is considered exceedling polite to have more than just "lol" or "haha" or "I agree" as a reply. Not necessary, but preferred!

10. Have fun!

11. The Golden Rule: if you have nothing nice to say, don't say it at all!

Learn 'em, live 'em, love 'em, buy 'em dinner.

Baka Nezumi

Thank you very, very much for this reminder.
Remember that this is not only for the members, but the mods as well.

Especially towards the mods, who seem to forget that spamming is a violation of the rules but let many do it and punish those who call them out on it.

Nice work old friend, maybe the "mods" will actually act like ones now.

DW

Yes, I can think of two people who need to have their spamminess cease at once...

Gamefreak

I'll sticky this.  It would be a waste for this to sink.

Darth Wyndisis

Thank you, Gamefreak; I meant to do that.

JDog

Hey, yeah, I've noticed that this meta king guy seems to be doing a lot of spamming, like, in the wii/ds codes he just made this random smilie and I really don't know what is up with that guy, but he has major spamming issues.

Darth Wyndisis

Thank you for pointing that out.  Was this recent, because if it is, he's getting a warning.

JDog

I'm not sure, but it happened when rugby or whoever locked the Wii/ds codes thing.

Mysterious F.

bgrugby, what do you mean me, Gamefreak, and ZV don't act like mods? We each were chosen because we follow the rules and point out when things get out of hand or when rules were broken. You're seriously playing favorites.

JDog

You know, gamefreak does have a point, I think they're doing a good job. and I see DW already found the spammer.

Mysterious F.

My name is 'The Artist Formerly Known As Whocares', not Gamefreak. I have the laser beems in my sig, remember.

I am not playing favorites, I just feel you guys are not doing your jobs when it comes to spammers and it has gotten to the point where it is a serious headache. And thank you for unlocking my topic without asking, maybe it will improve but lord knows how many times I had to tell people not to spam in there.

Mysterious F.

You actually could have told us that your topic was spammy, you know. That's what everyone else does. And spamming is a much more minor offense compared to insulting and cussing.

Yeah well I lost my temper with that one but again, maybe if people would take care of spammers because I never tolerated spamming like this. And it is my topic and I think I have the right to lock it, but you want it, have fun with it.

And yes it is a minor offense...until people keep on doing it, then you have a problem.

But whatever buddy, your the moderator you do what you want, besides you shouldn't really be getting all defensive just because some people (and trust me their are people) who think you could be doing a better job. Instead you should be listening to them and do better.
