I just started playing it, it is certainly the hardest Zelda game. I just died at Horsehead.

Grr, I can't make any sort of progress in this game at all! The enemies always find ingenious ways to lower my life level, and the worst part is, I can't avoid a lot of the things that cause me to lose life. The enemies are infuritating after they've killed you multiple times, especially the Darknut-type things, and even if you defeat one of them, another one is usually waiting for you. Then what really pushes me over the edge is that after you lose all of your lives, you have to make your way all the way back to the palace/temple/dungeon/whatever from the beginning of the game, but I wouldn't care as much if it didn't take forever, and you didn't constantly run into enemies on the way. I think this is easily the hardest game I've ever played.

This is also my 200th post... just thought it warranted mentioning.

A lot of people felt that way actually.
There's this guy at my job with a Zelda tattoo on his chest- he's a hardcore fan, and I respected him for it. That is until, however, he compared Zelda 2 to the Phillips games.

That actually pissed me off quite a bit. He called himself an oldschool fan, and bragged that he'd beaten every Zelda game. When I asked him about Zelda 2 (as it was for me, the hardest of them all) he said it wasn't a real Zelda game. I was so objective I almost yelled at him for calling himself an oldschool Zelda fan. He considers Majora's Mask oldschool.

^ While I would hardly call that objective, in no way do I disagree. Zelda II was great. It's harder than diamond, but it's also loads of fun.

So AoL is now the only Zelda game I haven't beaten. I was just wondering, is it actually worth playing? I've heard it's kind of an.... embarrassment (?) to the Zelda name...

It's not that bad...just really, really, really hard.  Mostly at the end, what with getting to the Great Palace and defeating the final two bosses.
