Actually, looking back at that post, I was kinda ridiculous. Sorry about that.

I don't think that people should beat their kids, I just think that physical discipline is occasionally needed, and never beyond a slap on the hand.

I'm very much against child abuse of any kind, I just don't think that just a hit is really that bad. u_u Granted, I am personally more afraid of yelling as opposed to hitting (I've grown kinda accustomed to it, I guess?) and that probably plays a much bigger role.

I don't believe that a person should ever purposely inflict harm upon their child. There are much better ways to go about disciplining a child than physical abuse.

I have to admit, I think these kids might jsut get a little too carried away with pretending and having fun. Sure, it's sad. But if you were the same age you would do the same things too.

Um, I don't think if I were nine, that I'd think I wouldn't die if I buried myself in sand. I mean, seriously, by that age, a kid should have some common sense. I could see if it was possibly a  six-year old. But nine is a little too old to not know that you can't live without breathing.

Not really, as a child i got whipped with a belt, true back then it was alright to do that to your kid, but still, it straightened me out. I'm not saying it's the right thing to do, but punishment, like taking things away from a kid, is much less effective then a spanking.

I don't think it's possible to justify hitting a child. For every case of "It worked for me" there is another where it ruined a child, even just a slap on the wrist is too far in my opinion.

Quite the contrary.  It was because my parents took so much stuff away from me, that I was so bored that I turned to Fox News.  And the rest is history.

I got beat when I was little- sometimes over things that weren't even my fault. But its because of discipline that I'm the guy I am today. Parents should have the right to spank their child, but only with a belt or the hand. My friend Dave used to get beat with extension cords, and lamps XD
