I just found this great program called Zelda Classic that lets you make your own Zelda game and play it on your computer, free of charge! And you can play other people's custom quests, use your own music, add sprites so you can play as any sprite you want, and use any boss for custom dungeons! It's a quite difficult learning curve, but there are plenty of tutorials on the main web page. It can be downloaded here for free: http://www.zeldaclassic.com/

Just click downloads once you get there and download the version you want!

MagmarFire

I wonder if it uses an event system similar to that of RPG Maker XP? If so, then it shouldn't be that hard for me to learn, having it pretty much down pat. But I doubt it does... :-*

I should look into this more as soon as I have my current game completed.

Advanceshipping and Rion had better be Chuck Norris approved.

It's a lot of fun. I'm currently working on Valley of the Deluge. It will suck
cause it's my first quest and it won't be done for a long, long, long time, but if any of you download Zelda Classic your free to play it once it's done!

This thing has been around for a LONG time. And I think it's based off Game Maker.

You know, I've been looking for this thing for years. Thanks, HH92! Now I can finally check it out again.
What, you expect me to say something witty?

HylianHero92

No problem!  ;)

Btw, if you try to use the player (not the custom quest maker) and you have Windows but it won't work, click start, programs, then go to Zelda classic and click on ZC windowed (large or small) then it should work. I didn't know this however, and it took me about a week to figure it out.

MasterKeyX

This is probably one of the coolest things I have ever seen.

Is it possible to not use Link as the playable character, or to make your own weapon/item sprites?

HylianHero92

Yep. You can make the main character look however you want and edit the appearance of items and weapons.

I actually think I've got the hang of just about the whole program now.

It doesn't work for me, probably because I'm using Vista. The support forums are no help, either.

Dang.

I'm quite sure they have a Vista version. Try one of the older ones. If not, they said something about a Vista version coming out soon. I don't know if they meant a better version or the 1st Vista one though....

I've heard that the 2.5 beta works with Vista, but I can't find it on the Zelda Classic website, and I'm not sure where to get it. I'll have to do some digging, I guess. I hope I can get it to work, if I can find it, because otherwise, I'm screwed, since I've tried everything I can think of to run it.

I just found this on their forums:
