The Legend of Zelda

Once upon a time, there was a kingdom named Hyrule, which was ruled by a fair king and his beautiful daughter, Zelda. One day, however, demon began to appear in the kingdom. Gannon, Prince of Darkness, was invading Hyrule in hopes of making it his own. In his invasion, he secured possession of the Triforce of Power, a magical, golden triangle-shaped power.

Princess Zelda then split the Triforce of Wisdom, one of the two counterparts of the Triforce of Power, into eight fragments, and hid them throughout the land. The other counterpart of the Triforce of Power, the Triforce of Courage, had been missing for ages. Legends tell of an evil prince from the royal family who could not have full control over all three Triforce, and Power and Courage left him...

Zelda was then captured, and Impa, the caretaker of the princess, fled, being ordered to look for a hero to gather the eight fragments of the Triforce of Wisdom and destroy Gannon. While fleeing, she was overtaken by pursuers, and was rescued only when a boy appeared and drove them off. The boy's name was Link.

Once told of the situation, Link resolved to save Zelda, and traveled all throughout the land gathering the fragments of the Triforce of Wisdom and gaining many skills. Gannon's demons, fearing his power, fled from his very sight. Having gathered and completed the Triforce of Wisdom, Link infiltrated Gannon's lair, high atop Death Mountain, the most dangerous of lands. Deep within Gannon's lair, Link found the Silver Arrows, the only weapon capable of destroying the Prince of Darkness.

Link then confronts Gannon, and a great battle begins. Gannon turned himself invisible, and moved to kill Link. Link, with the light from the Triforce of Wisdom, managed to destory Gannon's invisibility, and destroyed him with the silver arrows. Link then picked up the Triforce of Power from his ashes, and goes on to he prison where the princess was hidden.

Link finds Zelda surrounded with magical flames intent on destroying her. Link destroys these flames with a single swing from his sword, and presented to Zelda the two completed Triforce. Link was named the Hero of Hyrule, and Hyrule lived in peace forever.

It is merely a legend, just how the majority of the Zelda games are either:

Collect magic stones, find out they won't help you, and then find some sages to make you stronger. (LttP, OoT, TWW. TP and PH had similar concepts, but replaced stones and sages with something else.).
Collect eight magical items from eight dungeons, then fight the villain in the ninth dungeon. (LoZ, LA, OoS, OoA. AoL, MM, FS, FSA, and TMC have similar concepts, but the dungeon count are different for each game.)

This was to show that the Legend of Zelda series is exactly what it is, a legend, and most games are just retellings of this legend, like how many legends are tranformed overtime.

Dude, the last time I checked, MM does not retell the original LoZ game. It's an entirely different tale, and the fact that you can't tell the difference between Ganon trying to conquer Hyrule and Majora's Mask trying to destroy Termina deeply offends me.

I hope Ganon pwns you in the face!

Also, FS does not have you collect items; you don't even have an inventory screen to hold the items. You run around the level with an item, and when you see a stand with a different item on it it's usually a good sign that you need to replace the item you have with the item on the stand to proceed through the level. So I don't even see how FS is a retelling of the original game.
