Back when I was at VCU, I had this sort of couch/bed thing in my dorm.  Along the wall was this sort of shelf with cubby holes, I guess I would call them, and doors were padded.  The mattress was placed so that half of it was under this shelf/cubby hole thing, and the mattress could slide out, so during the day you could roll it in and have a couch but at night you could bring it out for a bed.

If that description comes of as confusing, I'll ask my friends if they have some pictures of themselves in their dorm room where the bed/couch is clearly visible.
