I really hate profanity. I mean REALLY hate it. >:( Is there anyone else out there who hates profanity even remotely as much as I do? If so post here please.

MagmarFire

There are times I find it strange why things are considered profane. My mind is strange, I know.

Profanity means cursing, right? I don't like when people curse alot, or when it's not necessary. But in some cases, it's funny. It is also strange to me how many words are considered profane. It reminds me, with a few words, how you weren't allowed to say "stupid" or "shut up".

JoeLink

Profanity is NEVER funny! It's just plain sick(and not in the good way)! SICK, SICK, SICK, SICK, SICK! >:( :P

I'm not an obsessive swearer or anything and I am more than capable of keepin my lanuage clean when in polite company, but sometimes swearing is needed[ to add emphasis to a joke or something. Other times it can't be avoided, if you drop something heavy on your toe you're more likely to swear than to politely say 'ouch, that hurt slightly.' There are times I swear in the stories that I write to make different characters, for example in one story there is a rebellious, 16 year old girl. My story wouldn't be believeable if she didn't slip in the odd curse. I conclusion, even though swearing is not a particularly nice think, it is a part of our language and therefore I can't understand why some people cannot just accept it thus.

Curse words are simply words society has deemed disgusting or vulgar- ass is simply a donkey, for example, but with the wrong connotation, it's a much worse term.

It's all in the way you use them- I don't have a problem if you curse loudly at dropping a heavy weight or injuring yourself, but I do have a problem with it in excess (which is, unfortunately, all too common on the internet) to make yourself look cool.

Basic rules to cursing: 1 or 2 is okay, 3+ in a post knocks your internet IQ down about 5 points for every one. Bonus points taken away if you're using ALL CAPS or bad grammar/spelling.

Profanity is not a necessity of the human life! >:( I go through life just fine without uttering a single ounce of profanity, so I'm pretty sure anybody else can. But then again, I can't change people, so why even bother writing this. :(

Well I do know for a FACT that profanity did NOT exist in Hyrule. ;D

It's their choice, I can understand being perturbed by excess amounts of profanity, but there's no reason to bash people for something they consciously choose to do.

To be honest, I love cursing- and it adds an extra "oomph" to some messages, especially in songs and the like.

JoeLink

I disagree....with your second statement(paragraph?). >:( I think it only adds disgustingness, not any -oomph in the slightest. But, thats just my opinion. What I really wanted to know is if there is anyone out there who hates profanity as much as I do?! ???

This is certainly a situational argument, but stylish clothes (those made only for style and that have no other practical use) aren't really a necessity to human life, either. Some people wear them anyway. Computers aren't a necessity, either. People use them anyway.

Sometimes, people just do these things because they can.

And what makes you say that it didn't exist in Hyrule? I can certainly imagine a few foul mouths here and there.

What's with the sudden burst self-righteousnes, caped cruzader?
I think you are giving the topic too much thought, look, nobody is perfect, I guarantee that you will curse in the next three years, sure, there is no need for cursing, just like there is no need for "marvelous", "fantastic" or "hilarious"; humans need certain words to express strong emotions, is a psycological outlet that keeps us from expresing them otherwise (like jumping around and screaming, or slaming the furniture around).

MF is right, what makes you think people did not curse in Hyrule?

Hi no Seijin

I have no problems with profanity until it is used as a direct insult.

1.) none of the zelda games actually have profanity in them. :)
2.) Hyrule existed in ANCIENT times, back when profanity did not exist. :)
3.) and even if you could find evidence that there was profanity in Hyrule (pretty much infinitely unlikely ;D), I know for an ABSOLUTE FACT that Link would NEVER use profanity. He is a paragon of benevolence, one who is against evil, and profanity is MOST DEFINATELY EVIL! >:(

And you are WRONG! I will never use profanity, EVER. Not now, not when I am 30, not when I am 80, not even when I'm in the afterlife! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

1.) None of the Zelda games have any sex, either, unless you count Telma, but le gasp! We have a pregnant woman in Twilight Princess (Uli). I wonder how that came to be...

Point: You can't base every little thing's existence on what you only see in the game. If you could make a valid assumption based off of that alone, then we could safely say that Link never goes to the bathroom. Ever.

2.) I ask you this: how do you know profanity didn't exist back then? That was mostly just a restatement of your thesis, not an answer to the question.

3.) Well, Link's just one person. All because Link acts that way doesn't mean that everyone does, and let me tell you, if everyone were to act the way he does, we'd even see Ganondorf at the soup kitchen every Friday.

1)True, but you only see part of the world in which they exist
2)Cursing exists since the beginning of language, probably bron from the need to taunt other humans into conflict
3) 8) Link doesn't talk, so I guess you have a point there. But cursing or not cursing doesn't have to do the slightest with whether you're good or evil (even then, good and evil are biased ways). What if Batman cursed or Iron Man (who is the most likely to curse) did, does that that suddenly everything is lost, or what if the POTUS received a report where 200 soldiers (which a 'high' number by today's standards) were killed in Iraq and he said "Oh s****!", does that mean that now your country is being lead by some sort of humanoid demon?

Oh, and trust me, you will curse, sooner or later
