College?

So this Fall I'll be entering the class of 2013 at Rice University. I know I haven't been around much (blame finals and AP exams and regular tests... and April Fools being a dud... and a failure on my part to get a simple CMS working for a new Spirit Tracks section of the site), but I don't know if this will give me less time to work on the site. Is that even possible? I guess. Actually, it could give me more time, or the same amount of time. I'll know when I know.

However, rest assured that, as usual, I will be seasonally active this summer. Expect Spirit Tracks stuff, and possibly more activity on my part in HA2. Who knows what else!

That's not the point of this topic though! I've never realized this until now, but, sometimes it seems like I'm the only person my age on this forum - everyone else is either older, or younger. But am I wrong; is anyone else going to college this fall? Where, if you care to tell us?

Also, I've learned a lot about the whole application process just by going through it, so if anyone is a Junior who's starting to think about applying to places and you have some kind of question, I might be able to help. Do you already have a dream school? Because let me tell you: that school can change in an instant once you get into the actual application process. I am going to a school that I hadn't planned on even applying to (nor had I ever even heard of it) until this January, and I cannot possibly  be more excited about it.

Ugh, anyways, this is the college topic. I hope one doesn't already exist  ::) Though I can't see why it would...

College kind of intimidates me. I'm not looking forward to it like you are. I hope you'll still be around here. But from what I've heard and seen, term papers take FOREVER and they're the essense of hell itself. Good luck out there, and godbless.

Pyrgusfinn

You aren't alone.
I am going off to college this fall as well.
I might be on more or less, not that that would be totally unusual for me, but... blah.
I'm looking forward to it, just because it means that i will get out of this hell hole of a town that i live in.

I'm glad that the whole application process is over though. =]
Now I must get through my senior project. =]

I'm still a soph but I have been thinking about it a bit, and I have come to this conclusion:

I have no idea what college I want to go to, only that I want to do something in business as a career, but as that's very vague I can't pinpoint my future in the next 2 years. It's troubling me. Did you ever have that problem of cluelessness? Cuz it's making me feel like a lost cause, especially since I'm in the AP-Honors crowd and they all know what they want, except me.

I've changed my mind about all of that several times.  haha.
I'm also in that honors/ap crowd, and trust me, you are not the only one who doesn't know what they want yet.
I was dead set on going to one school until my senior year, and then I didn't even apply. =] don't sweat it.
you will figure it out when the time comes for it.

You're actually better off not having a dream school I guess, Rinku, it makes it a lot worse to be rejected.

The fact that you know what you want to do should be good enough, just find the best business schools and keep with the APs and Honors classes. I started off just thinking about wanting to program, and not really knowing much about it. Now it's Computer Science all the way for me, but even that could change.

If you're really not sure, then don't commit to a school that's exclusively for business. Or, rather, a school that excels in business but not much else. Try to go to an all-around great school, and build up from there. If anything, you could always go to a very specialized grad school... but that's thinking too far ahead.

Also, try joining clubs or taking some classes related to business, to see if that sparks a more specific idea of what you want to do. Future Business Leaders of America is pretty great, I'm a member and I've won at State competitions twice - once this year. I've been to Nationals once already and am going again this year, and my competition was exclusively computer-related. They have business math and procedures and such, so you might find it interesting. At the very least, it's a good way to test your dream to see if it's what you really want to do for the rest of your life.

And in taking a few C++ classes this school year, I've definitely come closer to realizing that programming is what I want to do. When you're faced with REAL work and tests and such that you have to deal with, you tend to ask yourself if you really enjoy it enough to make it your career. I do.

I got into all the schools I applied to, but Georgia Tech ended up being too expensive. It being my dream school I was a little disappointed, but Rice was high on my list too, so it's all worked out well in the end I suppose. Maybe I'll be able to go to GT for grad school some day, when they start handing out money for free.

Care to say what school you're going to Pyrgus?

And ZV: Rice is in Houston you know. And term papers are just like any other work: it's a pain until you get them done, and then they're over until the next ones. Don't let schoolwork scare you away from college! Remember that after the first year of two you'll be specializing in something that you enjoy, so those term papers will become significantly less of a hassle and generally more interesting.

Well, that's 'cause C++ is awesome! :D

Anywho, for me, I guess I'm going straight into MSU. Pretty cool, I guess.

Well, as a senior in highschool, i am going to a community college for two years after i graduate. I got everything done and set up to go already. I'm going in for Web design, and graphics and what not. I plan on learning css, html, and c++ pretty much anything i can learn about web design and web graphics. I already found a local place were i can get a job once i am done if the company is still there, which i am hoping it will be :)

Uximadesk

Robotics it is for me, there's no point telling you which school I'm going to, just that it excels at engineering.

It was a long process deciding, but I finally found that programs and mechanics are my strong area. Now the only real thing I have to decide is whether to study Japanese or Chinese, I'm really not sure about it.

About that... C++ really has nothing to do with Web site design--unless, of course, you plan on creating your own Web browser. C++ deals more with console-oriented applications, including, but not limited to, video games.

JavaScript, however, is probably what you're talking about. At least both of them follow C syntax...

I've had to take a year off from High School to get money together to go to college.

Of course, it's come to my attention that I have a decent shot at free rides due to my ACT scores and such.

It'll be Political Science for me though.  It's my passion and I'm going to follow through on it.

When I left  high school I didn't know what I wanted to do, so went to community college for two and a half years, which was more than I really had to, but I wanted to get in all the math I needed for my degree.  Then I transfered to Michigan State this year and it was a pretty smooth transition.

I'm going to Converse College.  I got a full tuition ride there, soooo.... I kind of have to go there. haha. Its not a bad place though.
I'm planning on majoring in either deaf studies or biochemistry.  And I want to go to Jones school of Funeral Services and Mortuary Science after I get done at Converse.
I want to be a Mortician. =]
haha. I am interning at a funeral home right now, and I absolutely love it.  So I know I could handle it. haha.

I've still got two more years of school before Uni.
But since in our last two years we can only take 4 subjects, I've kinda got it narrowed down.
I'm taking English literature, French, Religious Studies, Maths, and Italian next year, so I think I'll go with one of those for uni (though I would probably take French and Italian together). But I change my mind a lot so I've got no idea really!
But I really want to try for Oxbridge >< I know its liek impossible to get in, so I'll just have to be super charming in my interview, if I can even get an interview that is.
If not, I'd love to go to uni in Bath, or maybe York.
Its sad how my choices are mostly based on how pretty the cities are.

Sam as Pyrgus, I was certain of one college and didn't even apply this year. I'm going to the local college. It's one of those wait and see what happens things.
