It was blue earlier, but now it's green.

Why not keep it the same color as the rest of the text, but underline it to set it off from the rest of it? It'd get the job done just as well without looking too weird.

If that happens, though, TW, the contrast between it and the rest of the text would still be quite low, even with the underline. For new members, we should have it as noticeable as possible but still easy on the eyes. Personally, I think the yellow works well.

umm... I'm a new member, and I can assure you that it's currently orange but... really, I didn't need the colour to help me notice it was there. A little message at the top of the screen with News written in bold at the top of it is fairly noticable.
