This reminds me of how in the 90's it was still uncommon to hear cases of depression or stres from teens. Now it seems that the age were these begin to appear is younger and younger. I feel sorry for the kids.

Yeah, adults are pretty much screwing up this generation. Big time. Even worse then they screwed up my generation. And THAT is bad.

Know what? I'm just going to Finland. Screw you, america. You've had hair-brained antics for way way too long now.

Bah. If you think this generation's screwed up, take a look at the dozens of generations before us...

Advanceshipping and Rion had better be Chuck Norris approved.

No, this one is pretty screwed up, really. The 80's are probably the only decade that beats us. At least the 90's had Kurt Cobain.

I interned in a first grade classroom last year, and I got to see some of the effects of this first hand.  There was one little boy who was sooo incredibly smart, but he had no social skills whatsoever.  It was kind of sad.  I mean there were several kids who were six or seven who could multiply, speak Spanish, had better grammar than me, and were already learning things about science and history. Their teacher often told me how much she hated that everything had to be so structured. She wanted to play games with the kids, but she couldn't because of things that the school board mandated.
I felt bad for them. Remembering back to my days in primary school, it was about having fun!

Mysterious F.

Wow, that's just... I don't know what to say...  :-[

So, who thinks that the fat, lazy, boring world WALL-E predicted is becoming reality?

alical

I think it's really sad.
I agree with Pyrgus, children are often made to do too much and they often lose out on just having fun and playing.
I wouldn't go as far as to say the whole generation will be "screwed up" though, that's too broad.

It's not the country in general, it's the parents in question, the school boards that we are dealing with, and the common demands that are requested of them and/or us by the Government and/or everyday common civilian.  :-X It is just way to much. It is mainly what was taught back in their day, and they are probably over-reacting about the whole situation. You'll notice that it is stated that school boards are here to help us get our education. However, the ones in question, and this also goes for the school I went to in MA, are not very specific about what they mean, and they usually don't care. They explain it in a time saving manner so they can get on with whatever it is they want to do, while usually at the expense of their students. The parents in question are too narrow minded, or are raising their children in the way they were raised.

UNIMPORTANT SIDE NOTE: Whew, I really need to go to some other Forum section here. My stress is goin up.

The times they are a-changing. Standards of Kindergartners are getting higher and higher and higher until the little tykes heads POP from all the effort.

What could they possibly test them on? The only way you got held back from Kindergarten when I went was if you weren't social enough.

My memory's a little vague, but I remember putting 0 effort into grade school and coasting through as a constant honor student.  I'm sure some of these kids could get away with the same thing.

Hope that didn't make me sound arrogant.
