Mysterious F.

The title speaks for itself.

Rules:

1. All forms of animation are included, such as hand-drawn animation (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Akira), computer animation (Toy Story, Shrek), stop-motion animation (The Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline), and rotoscoping (Waking Life, A Scanner Darkly).
2. At least 75% of it must be animated. (Sorry, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?)
3. It has to be a feature film, which, as defined by the Internet Movie Data Base, is at least 40 minutes long. (Better luck next time, Chuck Jones)

My choices:

1. Waking Life (2001)
2. Grave of the Fireflies (1988)
3. Fantasia (1940)
4. Waltz with Bashir (2008)
5. Howl's Moving Castle (2004)
6. Pinocchio (1940)
7. Kiki's Delivery Service (1989)
8. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (1984)
9. Only Yesterday (1991)
10. A Bug's Life (1998)

Honorary Mentions: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), Dumbo (1941), Alice in Wonderland (1951), Sleeping Beauty (1959), 101 Dalmations (1961), My Neighbor Totoro (1988), Beauty and the Beast (1991), The Lion King (1994), Toy Story (1995), Princess Mononoke (1997), Spirited Away (2001), Shrek (2001), Finding Nemo (2003), WALL-E (2008)...

Uximadesk

In no particular order:

1. Aladdin
2. Spirited Away
3. Interestella 5555
4. The Incredibles
5. Sinbad
6. Fantasia 2000
7. The Nightmare Before Christmas
8. The Corpse Bride
9. Batman: Knight of Gotham
10. The Animatrix

Those are the ones I can call from the top of my head, there are some more I might be missing, who knows...
(BTW, do the last two count? They are a compilation of different short films with very different styles each.)

Being almost entirely animated and over forty minutes in length, they do count.

By the way, wasn't Animatrix supposed to be a collection of shorts based off The Matrix?

Uximadesk

Exactly what I'm saying, both Gotham Knight and Animatrix are a compilation of shorts. I'm not sure if they fall under your rules, but whatever, I still enjoyed Animatrix and Gotham Knight

  • Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit
  • The Wind In The Willows
  • Persepolis
  • Animal Farm
  • The Hunchback of Notre Dame
  • Toy Story
  • Finding Nemo
  • The Lion King
  • My Neighbour Totoro
  • Akira

Chicken Run was also good but it makes me sad and I wouldn't want to watch it again, I've seen it like a million times, it's shown almost every Christmas.

Uximadesk

What's Persepolis about? The title rings a bell, but I can't pinpoint what it it.
BTW, I hated the Hunchback of Notre Dame, it conveys the message that even if you go as far as to risk your life to save a girl, she will always go with the more handsome one >: (

Persopolis is a French film done mostly in black and white. It's basically the autobiography of an Iranean girl who has to move to France at the time of the Islamic revolution.
It's very good.

And I love the Hunchback of Notre Dame! Plus just because someone saves your life doesn't mean you have to force yourself to fall in love with them!

I still haven't seen that yet, nor have I seen The Triplets of Belleville, which is also French. They both sound very good.

Come to think of it, I still haven't seen Whisper of the Heart, too. Or Pom Poko.

Plus, The Hunchback of Notre Dame digusted me. It's hopelessly politically correct in the depiction of Gypsies, and very irreverent to the source material.

I've seen the first half or so of The Triplets of Belleville but I fell asleep because it was on pretty late.

And I guess neither of those things bothered me, if I'd wanted to know the story of The Hunchback of Notre Dame properly I would have read the book not watched the Disney film. And Disney aren't exactly the type to ever stray too far from political correctness.
I enjoyed it mainly because of the art, I just thought the animation was beautiful.

Well, it's just my belief that it is exceptionally stupid to try and adapt a great novel knowing full well you won't stay true to the original meaning, and that you'll just end up butchering it. If Walt were still alive, then he would have (at least tried to) stay true to the story.

And the animation is nothing compared to Fantasia 2000, which took most of the 90s to create.

Actually, you have to remember that Walt Disney was still around when they made Snow White, in which they ruined the ending in which they made step mother dance and hot iron shoes to death and instead pulled a (somewhat epic) dei ex machina. So there is no way to know what he would have done with both the Hunchback and Hercules, which came out around the same time and have similar styles.

I loved Hunchback. It was highly entertaining, which was probably the film's main purpose, and while the moral didn't promise you'd get the girl for being nice, things still did end well. Honestly, I didn't leave that thinking "God I'm glad I'm not ugly"

9, Watership Down, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline, WALL-E, Finding Nemo, Animal Farm, Hercules, uh.... okay... this is actually really hard for me. ): Just those ones for now.

Am I the only one here to likes to think of it as the Majora's Mask of Disney?

And I loved Hercules. Hades is the best evar. XDDDDD

Advanceshipping and Rion had better be Chuck Norris approved.

Mysterious F.

I've never been one for children's movies that are basicllay a series of inside jokes, really. Even as a kid I could tell nearly every joke had a hidden meaning for adults, which I thought was stupid since Hercules is... well, a children's film, right?
