The Glamour Nazi

Double post for Bump and revival and new stuff.

Strike Witches (mature) It says mature but it's really... Not, it's more like adult.

The entire premise of the show is that these girls from ages 12-20 have magic abilities which help them fight the bad-guys who attack before WWII. Also, they don't wear pants and they wear "something that's like underwear, but isn't, so they aren't embarrassed to let everyone see it." yeah. Still, for an excuse plot it is VERY well thought out and there are tons of references to WWII aces. Namely Charlotte/Shirley.

Sky Girls - This one was released before Strike Witches and has the same character designer, which explains why the 16 year olds look 11. But this one has even better character developement and story than Strike Witches, which is saying something, since Strike Witches had a good story.

Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei - (Possibly Mature) - This is a joke series if I ever saw one. It's written by one of Japan's most famous satirists and has jokes ranging from suicide to underwear. Yeah, it's diverse and hilarious.

Genshiken - This is an anime about a visual media study group that bridges the gap between anime, manga, and games. It's full of hardcore otaku problems (I felt like I could relate really well, despite not being in Japan, since us American otaku feel at least a small part that Japan's feel) over the course of the series it definately suffers from Cerebus Syndrome, turning into something quite depressing. And next is the famous fictional anime/manga from the Genshiken universe...

Kujibiki Unbalance - One word, MOE. Yeah, it's a very moe series that strangely has a good story. This kid, with HORRID luck, manages to get into a school that uses a Kujibiki lottery to determine everything, from the school council (which is absurdly powerful, even to the point of having it's own squad of ninja assassins and meeting with world leaders) to who gets to be in what clubs. Needless to say the guy's luck starts to change when he gets selected to be the next president. A very good series.

(and because I feel like it, I'll put a Manga I've read recently in here)

Tena on S-String - This series felt like a very strange story in the first 2 books, kinda generic, full of the token loli character, tsundere, and all that, but in book 3 it turns into a more serious series, while still keeping the hilarity from other books.

Now there is a comedy if I ever saw one.

Alright, I'm not sure if I've ever mentioned Kanon here before, but I just bought the whole series on DVD (since it's so popular and licensed finding on the net is near impossible) for a really good price (29.99 for the whole 24 episodes? Awesome.)

The series is great, supposedly as good as CLANNAD, but as I have yet to finish the series (or even episode 2 but it's good already)

Mags, Get this one as you wait for CLANNAD, it's worth the buy for the moe alone. But the story makes it just as good. Bamboo Dong from ANN has it in his favorite anime list.

Also Yuuichi = Kyon in so many ways.

Also, watch Eden of the East.

Amazon.com has seemed to recommend Kanon to me. If it's as good as CLANNAD, great! Should keep me busy. :D ...I'd better build my funds up more, though, since I recently bought a new computer.

Alright, I just went out and bought the DVD of Baccano! and I have to say I am really satisfied with it.

Baccano! is set in 1930's America, over 3 years, 1930, 31, and 32, the anime take it in anachronistic order, but if you watch it about halfway through it all starts to make sense. There is no main character, there is no one specific story, and the episodes jump back and forth between each of the... 12 or so characters, my favorites being Isaac, Miria, and Firo.

The music is great, and really brings out the feel of that "Hey, we're in the 30's, the mafia rules everything, and swingin' music is all over the place. Oh, yeah, I should duck to get out of the way of those bullets." kind of mood.

Oh, and there is alchemy, monsters that kill train passengers, and immortal people. But that's not really all that important.

You can watch it free on Youtube, if you have an account and you're over 18, since it's REALLY violent. We're talking Pulp Fiction with alchemy. So yeah. It's really got nothing else other than the violence to make it so those under 18 can't watch it, save for one line said by Radd.

Anyway, if you have seen Durarara! or want to, I recommend this, since it's set in the same world and the story is set up in a very similar fashion.

Edit: Also, what is with all the crap released so far this season?

To Aru no Railgun/Index, Yosuga no Sora, Under the Bridge, Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt, all of it is excuses to put naked women on TV. The only decent shows this season were Bakuman, Shinryaku! Ika-Musume, Oreimo, and A World Only God Knows and Oreimo still has a lot of fanservice, but at least it's not all smutty like everything else.

Congratulations Japan, you're making my dislike anime.

Sturgeon's Law, man. It applies everywhere.

The Sturgeon's law ratio is off on it though.

Although, it could be talking about anime in general, in that case it's pretty true.

Still, this season's good shows are REALLY good.

MagmarFire

It's off because it's a hyperbole, not an actual statistic.

Alright, we all know I watch a lot of anime so...

It's time for... SHOE-SAMA'S ANIME AND MOE CORNER!

Alright, today's review is on Angel Beats the newest anime that is based off a VisualArt's/Key work, although strangely, this one never had a game as source material, although it could totally work as a game.

Now for the number scores.

Art: 8/10
It's no Visual Masterpiece like CLANNAD, but it was done pretty well.

Music: 9/10
The OP is great, the animation for it is awesome and the OP and ED change every so often, so it's pretty neat. The show has some Lia song (Is fanboying) and is also very musically inclined throughout.

Uniqueness: 8/10
It's most likely not the most unique thing out there, especially with Yuri who seems to be some sort of Haruhi Clone (Episode 12 mainly) But it's not a typical show either, it's got some pretty unique things, I consider it a Key story Mash-up.

Number of Times I cried: 2 and a half (I started tearing up)
Number of Times the Fourth Wall is Broken: None (But they do paint it sometimes)
Number of Times I made a Haruhi Reference: 4
Number of Completely Adorable Ships: 2 (HinataxYui and MCxKanade/Tenshi)

Now, like I said, it's not the most original thing out there, and it's more of a "Take all Key's stories and throw them into a blender to make a delicious drink" kind of thing, so it's still all good. I know I'm going to buy some figurine sets if I ever get some money. ^_^'

All in all I give it a 9/10 only because of the fact it's a story mash-up and it has a Haruhi-esque character.

Oh, and everyone thought I was Hinata from this rather than Tomoya from CLANNAD.

Also, coming soon is a review of Sky Girls and Princess Tutu.

The Glamour Nazi

I know it's a double post, but you'll have to forgive me, today I did something...

I "Supported the industry"

To all you pirates out there that means I bought tons of anime!

What did I buy? Mainly series I had downloaded before and really liked.

What you say?

Well...

Mahoromantic (I haven't watched it yet, but I hear it's VERY good.) $57
Sakura Wars/Taisen (It's a neat twist on the game.) $40
FLCL (9/10 It's awesome if you haven't seen it) $20
Kannagi Crazy Shrine Maidens (9/10 another amazing series) $30
CLANNAD (English dub is okay, Greg Ayres does an amazing Sunohara, enough to compensate for the rest of it.) $70 (Also, a masterpiece of a show.)

So...

a grand total of $200 somthing dollars.

I'll let you know how the anime are when I finish watching them all.

Hi no Seijin

Man, I still need to finish watching FLCL.  Is there somewhere I can watch it for free legally?

There are only 6 episodes if you saw 6 then it's over.

Also, while on the topic of Gainax I have seen the first 2 episodes of MahoRomantic.

Ever heard of the meme "Ecchi is bad?"

Yeah, that's from MahoRomantic... It doesn't pay heed to it's own advice at all.

Without this show I'd never know that naked Robot Maid vs Teacher battles even existed.

And now for the numbers.

First Impression.

Art: 9/10 (it's very good, and hand drawn I do believe.)
Story: 7/10 (It's not got much story as I can tell... Yet... It does seem to build tension with Mahoro's Operational Lifespan appearing at the end of each episode.)
Music: 7/10 (They aren't very... unique, but the lyrics for the ED are hilarious.)
Overall: 8/10

Yeah, I know there's only six episodes, but I only saw the first three.
