I just thought of something... *OoT Spoilers*

Remember at the end of OoT when Zelda sent Link back and caused the split in the timeline? If the events of the adult timeline were a result of Link being erased from that part of the split because of being sent back...then what the heck happened to the Master Sword? Why wasn't that erased from the adult timeline?

Zelda specifically asked Link to put the Master Sword back into the Pedestal of Time prior to sending him back. Also, you can clearly see the sword in the pedestal after she does.

It makes sense if it's tied by the Triforce. After all, (I believe) the Triforce of Courage, as well as being sent back with Link, was duplicated and broken into eight pieces. I do think this is what the King of Red Lions meant when he mentioned Link I "[leaving] the land that had made him a hero," or something along those lines. It could be a similar concept with the Master Sword, and it could hold water for Jack's two-Master-Sword theory, assuming that A Link to the Past and The Wind Waker are on opposite sides of the timeline.

I don't think that those games' placement is what he had in mind, though.

I mean it's capable of sealing ganon in one of the games, why couldn't it be the master sword?

The master sword is sort of the keystone of time, it's when Link removed it that the time split began.  I doubt it can be destroyed as it is the instrument of evil's bane-- most likely it was just left to sit dormant since the hero of time, Link, was prevented from getting it again by that Indian-giving whore Zelda.

How is the Four Sword the second Master Sword?  The Four Sword used to be the Picori Sword.  Picori Sword does not equal Master Sword.

I like the idea how it can be considered indestructible; it makes sense if it can withstand the elements for years and still be in peak shape in Twilight Princess. (Must be the Sages' prayers or something.) However, it doesn't really explain what happened to the Master Sword (post-seven years) after he was sent back, like how it was returned to the Temple of Time.

But then again, it's not really explained how Link and Zelda were in the freaking sky at the end, either. Maybe it and the Master Sword's adult location are kind of minor details, after all. Teleportation, perhaps?

I wonder if the Master Sword is omnipresent in time, if that makes any sense.  What I mean is it can be in two (or more) times at once, unlike a living person, who can only be at one place in time at once.  Ah, screw it; that doesn't make any sense at all.

It isn't shown how the Master Sword was returned, and the simplest explanation, if no other is provided, is usually the most likely one.  I always presumed that Link returned it to the Temple of Time and the door was sealed once again.

As for Link and Zelda in the sky, they were probably in the Golden Realm.  When Ganondorf first laid hands on the Triforce, the land became corrupted and dark, which is what caused the echoing wave of darkness that consumed future Hyrule.  When he was sealed and the Triforce was back in good hands, the realm itself became pure again, as well as Hyrule itself, same as what happened in ALttP.
