It's a generalized cuss word, I take it "[crap]" was supposed to be a different word, and Kuso is the direct translation to it.

Edit:  I took the first two paragraphs from the TV Tropes article on Cluster F Bombs (which was full of swear words) and translated it back and forth between different languages until there were no swear words left.  This was the result:
