I wonder if that increases the likelihood of lucid dreaming. Thanks for the explanation, Tach.

Once you've written down enough dreams to notice patterns and common themes in your dreams, try recognizing those things in the real world and do a reality check whenever you see them.

Like, I have a thing with alarms (mainly air raid sirens but really any loud alarm).  They're just a very common occurrence in my dreams.  So whenever I hear one in real life, I pinch my nose.

In dreams, it's your waking body that controls your bodily functions, not your dream body.  So if you pinch your nose in a dream, you'll still be able to breathe through your nose.  If I pinch my nose when I hear an alarm and I can still breathe through it, I know that I'm dreaming.  From that point I stabilize myself in the dream by rubbing my hands together and focusing on the dream world, and once the dream is stable and you're fully lucid, you can do anything.

Anything.

A combination of both.  Dream Signs are a pretty popular topic nowadays, but I discovered it on my own a year or two before I really discovered the internet (or, for that matter, joined TDC).  The research I did do online really helped to clarify a few points of contention, however.
