Hi no Seijin

Another whip for more Indiana Link action?  Excellent.

However, does this mean that the Clawshot/Double Clawshot won't be returning?

I am generally unimpressed with this entire thing. Not only does the graphic style not fit in at all with the theme and general goal of realism (said by Myiamoto himself in the post E3 "Iwata asks" videos shown on the nintendo website after the show), but everything looks extremely under-developed. Just take a look back at the trailer. Pause it a few times and you'll see the rigid models and shoddy environments.

Gameplay wise, WTF IS GOING ON?! 1:1 swordplay that isn't 1:1?! A gun that shoots an invincible beetle?! A whip that doesn't damage things?!

On the plus side, the Bow and Arrows look fun. Not to mention the developers have FINALLY taken it upon themselves to make rupees and hearts actual physical objects instead of an illusion that only exists if you run over it.

As a whole, even gameplay wise, I will not be spending more than $20 on this, if I feel it's even worth getting my Wii fixed for it.

It resembles Twilight Princess if it and Wind Waker had some sort of freaky, incestful love child that enjoys shoving crayons up his nose and playing with oversized beetles.

So yeah, defend if you must (I KNOW you will  :P ), but I will remain rooted to my opinion unless I see some real progress. You know, when it stops looking like an Indie game made in one year and starts looking and feeling like a game that  has been in production for god knows how many years and is slated for release in next year.

Darth Wyndisis

I'm not going to defend it; in fact, I agree with most of what you said.  I don't like the graphic style at all.  I wish they would have just kept the style used in TP.

So a case of "It's different but the same so it sucks?"

Why are you fans so hard to please?

No, it's not different. That's the point. From what we can tell, they took Twilight Princess and gave it low-res Wind Waker textures. The models are rigid and awkward looking and the environments look like an early N-64 indie game.

The gameplay looks extremely gimmicky and most likley is, given the whole thing is based around motion plus, which is great for the bow and sword but looks tacked-on with everything else.

And it would be VERY easy to please "us fans" if they'd actually used their 4+ years wisely and made a nice looking, intuitive game that eliminated the complaint-inducing issues instead of repeating them yet again.

Aw hell, who really knows? With luck I'll eat my words by 2011 and we'll all have a game worth looking forward to.

...Probably not, but a guy can dream right?  :'(

I kinda saw this coming...

The way I kind of think of it, the style's an updated Ocarina of Time style--meaning an anime style, which I warmly welcome. OoT wasn't exactly realistic with its color palette, even though, admittedly, that could've been due to technical limitations.

Do I wish they could've added a bit of texture to it? Well, yes, I do admit that I was a tad disappointed with the lack of realism--but I think this is a very good medium. It's brightly-colored enough for it to demonstrate its aura of fantasy (last time I checked, fantasy != reality; really, is realism that important in a fantasy game?) but flexible enough so it can easily make the atmosphere as dark as Majora's Mask as the story and environment demand.

tl;dr Do I like the art style? Quite so. Do I prefer the Twilight Princess style? Truthfully, yes, but I think a lot of that has to do with what I was expecting due to the concept art. Am I gonna complain and let it taint the experience of what's to come? No. I say let the release make that choice.

In this order:

1.) Recall that they were having problems with signal interference. From what I've heard, those problems were absent on the show floor.

2.) I take it you never used the Clawshot and Gale Boomerang on hearts and Rupees in Twilight Princess? :P

not gonna defend ALL of it, but given that nintendo HAS been known to rush to get a display for E3 (epona in TP for example), there's a chance that the final textures/models might be expanded upon. There's several missing frames where I'm sure the models are a bit laggy, but that may be fixed yet.

I've not got very high hopes, but I am still going to play it and hopefully enjoy it nonetheless, even if I think it IS a little subpar so far. I went into ST with a "this will suck" mentality, but I liked it in the end.

Besides why is no one looking at the new 3DS OOT remake? Given the way the gameplay in that looks, I want to assume that SS will look similar with the textures. It might not, but still!

As per usual with Nintendo, the first tidbits on the story have been revealed in a roundtable conference.

Please respect the wishes of those (well, mainly me :P ) who want to keep the story as fresh as possible by remembering to put all spoilers in spoiler tags such as these and by trying to refrain from putting new and upcoming pictures of the game out of signatures and avatars. If you have pictures to show, please link them. TinyURLing them will help keep the spoiler titles out of URL parameters.

Note that I'm only asking a favor; this is not a new rule. I will refrain from giving warnings, but still, do know that if you spoil me, you're going to get one royally ticked off Mags. ;)

EDIT: OH, MY GOSH. OH, MAH GAWSH!!!

Who cares about the art style!? WE GET ORCHESTRATED MUSIC, BABY!!!

Amen to that.

Mags, it's not that hard to read spoilers when you use the glow tags, at least for me.  It's why I stick to the beige color tags to cover up spoilerific information.  But, you know, to each their own; I'm just suggesting an alternative way to hide spoilers.  If you need to know how to get a TinyURL, visit this site.

As for Skyward Sword, I love the new graphical representation, and I love that it'll have orchestrated music.  I don't know about you all, but I saw what was probably a Deku in the trailer, so it looks like they'll be making a return.  I'd love to see the Gerudos again as well, but I'm not raising my hopes on that.  As for the new beetle item, I think it adds a pleasant little quirk to the Zelda universe.

I feel stupid now. Why didn't I think of this when Bill and Miyamoto said it?

"Your sword is the sword that will PIERCE THE HEAVENS!!!"

...Sorry. I had to get that out of my system. XD

EDIT: And what do you know? It looks like my theory of this game covering the origins of the Master Sword and, thus, taking place before Ocarina of Time has been confirmed. Seems like a Foregone Conclusion, too. I'd avoid TV Tropes if I were you guys if you want to avoid pre-release spoilers. They're not tagging them for some stupid reason.

That's not what I meant. The only thing they were having trouble with was the bow. Recall that's the only thing I was looking forward to.

Why?

No, seriously. I'm not trying to be a sarcastic a**hole right now (although I may be succeeding), I really want to know what about it appeals to you.

*Raises flame shield of wonder*

Hi no Seijin

@Mags:  I will be raising my hopes about the Gerudos being in Skyward Sword now.

@HH92:  It's like MagmarFire said.  It shows that Zelda is a fantasy game, but if the events of the game turn dark, the graphical style will support it.  Besides, I'm not really one to nitpick over how a game is represented graphically.  For the Zelda series, I'm more concerned about its story than it's graphical style.

Also, you asked an honest question; I did not sense any douchebaggery from you.

I see...

Well more power to ya then. It just feels sort of... spoiled to me, if you can understand. I keep thinking about how awesome in general it could be as opposed to how awesome it is.

Am I saying it should look like Twilight Princess? No. But they should have taken a step in that direction and improved it.

My main gripe with Twilight Princess was that they hyped it up for 2 or 3 years through trailers and delays that by the time I played it, I was very underwhelmed.  Hopefully, Nintendo can avoid that this time.

Gamefreak edit: My bad if anyone read this before I caught my mistake.
