My Teeth are in Jail.

I got braces today... They're uncomfortable, they hurt, I can't eat what I want, I can't chew gum, and it takes me 20 minutes to brush my teeth. I don't know what to do about this... Not only that, but they're extremely unattractive. How can I get my pimp on with a mouth full of metal. I'm at a loss for words here guys, and the only words I can muster are mispronounced. Help?

Funny story - in 5th grade I went to the dentist late in the school year and he said "He definitely needs braces" so he scheduled me to get them during Fun Day. Then, when we got there, the dentist there said "Your child's teeth are perfectly healthy. What kind of quack said he needed braces?"

I missed out on Fun Day for nothing.

Yeah, it's been a long time since I've had braces.  The pain will eventually go away, but then it will come back somewhat each time you get them adjusted.  You should get used to them being there after a while.  Then when you finally have them taken off it's going to feel really weird.

As someone who had them for two years, they're not that bad. Uncomfortable for a little while after getting them and after getting them tightened, but you get used to them quickly. Make sure you buy plenty of wax and put them on any brackets that bother you -- it helps SO MUCH. If you get rubber bands, you don't have to wear them right away, either. I always waited a few days for my teeth to feel better before I did so if they were too sore to wear them at the time, and things went fine for me.

And don't listen too much about what they say about what you can and can't do -- I chewed gum like nobody's business with braces on, mostly sugar-free stuff. I just made sure not to do so the day I went in and had no problems ever. Same with stuff like popcorn, chips, etc. Just make sure you brush your teeth and clean around your brackets and wires well before you go in. Of course, you should anyways. In fact, when I went in after I got them off, my orthodontist told a kid getting them put on that I was an excellent example. :P

OMG Nobody told me about the wax until I found it in the bag of stuff yesterday. I called and asked, and they told me about it. It really does help.
