Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Holy snot, GameInformer brought great news this month. The new Elder Scrolls game is on the horizon, and I for one couldn't be more psyched. The images looked amazing, and GI was seriously impressed, and had nothing but good things to say about it.

Skyrim takes place 200 years after the closing of the Oblivion gates, during a time which the dragons are returning to the land, as the prophecies once foretold. During the panic of the prophecies coming true, another serious event takes place- Skyrim's king is murdered. This triggers a civil war among the Nords, as some of them wish to secede from the empire. Alduin, the Nordic Dragon Lord is said to rise to consume the world. There used to be a race of warriors that defended against the Dragons. You are possibly the last of them left.

THIS GAME LOOKS AWESOME. You can dual wield weapons now, and not just weapons. I'm talking a lightning spell in one hand, and a mace in the other. According to game informer, you can mix spells to create other more powerful spells (like in Fable 3). The combat mechanics have changed, and you no longer have to pick a class at the beginning and stick with it all the way through.

"As any given skill in Skyrim increases, it contributes to your overall level growth. The higher the skill, the more it contributes to your leveling. Raising one skill from 34 to 35 is going to level you faster than raising one from 11 to 12"

They've also gotten rid of the magic class of "Mysticism", and instead moved those skills around to other schools of magic. Mysticism never seemed to useful to me anyhow. Also, archers got a major power boost in this game, probably because they were so underpowered and underused in previous games. According to Game Informer, you are what you play in this game. You could be a jack of all trades, and use every skill, but you'll level painfully slower than if you specialized in something. You'll also be able to choose from perks in Skyrim, much like in the Fallout series. I am so psyched.

I had some money down on Zelda and Elder Scrolls at Gamestop. But seeing as how neither of them are coming out till the end of the year, I decided to pull all but five dollars out of both of them, and trade in Fallout: New Vegas to buy Dragon Age 2. I've beat Dragon Age 2 twice in three days... I did almost all of the side quests too. It's a really short game with relatively high replay value, but still... I think I'm gonna take it back in to gamestop for a full refund, and put all that money towards Elder Scrolls. I need a job to buy a new Wii before I can buy Skyward Sword, so until then, I'm gonna pay for the only game I can actually play. Still can't wait- 2011 has been and will continue to be an amazing year in gaming.
