Pokemon are EVIL

Today in my composition class, my teacher had this video up. He wanted to show us this after class (maybe just for lulz, I don't know the real reason), but it had nothing to do with our prior lecture. Anyhootie&blowfish, this video that I'll link you to got a serious class discussion going. Many good points were made, and some people even agreed with the douche you're going to see in this video.

Pokemon are EVIL

Now that you've watched the video, I want to ask you a serious question: Did you laugh as hard at that picture of Jigglypuff as I did when he was talking about Satanic demons? I laughed so hard it made the rest of the class laugh. Anyhow, it sparked a major discussion, and I wanted to hear your views on this video. Here were a couple of the points:

My Teacher's points
In defense of the preacher: The preacher really can't be blamed for his views. Everyone has an opinion, and from an outsider looking in, he sees little creatures with supernatural powers that capture the minds of children all over the globe. He sees this is an epidemic that needs to be contained immediately.
In defense of sanity: How can anyone really think Jigglypuff is evil? Also, Pokemon had some pretty good morals packed into it. Friendship, courage, and a never-say-die way of thinking. I think he has a very extremist point of view, and he's simply selling this so people come back to the church.
In question to gamers: How many people here have played Grand Theft Auto? Now how many of you were compelled to go on a killing rampage? How many of you hit a granny on the way to school, shot her husband, and hijacked their car? Nobody- exactly. But there are kids who do. (to which I responded with B, and another classmate responded with (1).

Some class mates points
- I think it's absolutely ridiculous the kind of stance this guy is taking against Pokemon. It's entertainment! Kids know what they want, and it's not because they're being drawn in by some demonic force, or anything like that.

- The preacher is right. Kids need to get a firmer sense of what they're watching. He's preaching awareness, and there's nothing wrong with that. (to which I responded with A)

(1)- Look, if somebody got their hands on GTA, and didn't know before that you could kill someone with a gun, then they probably shouldn't have been allowed to purchase the game in the first place. M18+, you know? Parents have a responsibility too. (I firmly agreed with this point).

- I played Pokemon simply because it was fun. It was an adventure, and people could always use a little adventure in their lives.

- Kids aren't gonna go out and kill people because of Pokemon. In fact, I can't recall one confirmed case of a Pokemon-related death.

My points

A. He's preaching hell. Some preachers, instead of preaching about being good for an eternal reward, preach about being good to avoid an eternal damnation. He's trying to put the fear of hell in everyone.

B. Another thing about that point, that I'd like to cover right now, is that when someone goes flat out crazy, the media immediately jumps all over video games. Your perspective all depends on how you watch the nightly news. Do you watch it blindly soaking up everything they tell you, or do you think about it in your own way, and not just the way they present it?

A video on crazy that I completely agree with.

I've made this point several times too: Kids can't just be crazy anymore? lol

Hi no Seijin

This is one of the reasons I don't go for religion anymore; because it's usually the jerk*** preachers who get their own shows to spew out b.s.  I was raised Catholic, and my parents took me to church every Sunday, and do you know what I remember the sermons being about?  Peace and love and tolerance for your fellow man.  There was nothing about how Pokemon are evil or how Harry Potter leads kids towards Satanism.  There were no "hellfire and brimstone" speeches.  Why can't these preachers be the one who get airtime?

I'll just say that i was raised in a christian home with a christian family and all that stuff. My parents told me when i was real little, "this stuff isn't real" that was enough for me. people who speak out against video games address gamers like we are mentally unstable, like we believe completely that what we are playing is real. granted there is a small group that may take it too far, but that is not the majority of gamers. it's like saying every animal is a dog when there are many different species of animals. I suppose it's all a matter of perspective...

Ahh... the good old days of cartoons...

Considering the massive amount of people who play games, and the incredibly tiny percentile that are violent, I think it's pretty clear there's no strong connection between them. Or even a decent one.

So... This is funny...

I'm playing Pokemon Black, going against Team Plasma, and they spout stuff like "Pokemon should be released from their trainers!" and "I refuse to accept different beliefs!" and "People who use pokemon like this are evil!"

Is it just me, or it is a stealth "take that" at all the pokemon haters out there...?

Just a little thing I noticed.

Ha! that's comical! y'know, pokemon games and shows say the funniest "hint hint" type stuff all the time that as kids we don't care or notice lol.

I think I noticed that, too, albeit a bit differently.

Different how?

It strikes me as less of a "take that" to haters and more of a consideration of the rights of animals.  Pokemon is, in essence, a game about professional dogfighting.

Pretty much what Tach said, only the way I see it involves the voices of people who aren't familiar at all with the mechanics or the story behind the series.

I think it's more of a mockery towards PETA.

That sounds an awful lot like what I hear about PETA. But then again, from what I also hear, they want all domesticated animals dead anyway...
