My parents are getting divorced.

I just found out today. We were sitting down for dinner a few hours ago, and we were all silent. I thought it was just gonna be another dinner sittin with the family, and suddenly Mom says these words.

"Um, we have decided that...we um...are getting a divorce."

We had a talk, we cried (excessively), got everything sorted out, and no, it's not because of anything bad. Apparently it's because of the finances and the moving and all that, my Dad just wants to stay in one place, and chances are my Mom is gonna want to move again. They knew this was gonna happen, and recently there has been so much stress, neither of them can take it anymore. That, and the bond they shared when they were married wasn't there anymore. The conclusion we have come to is that yes, we will still be a family, but my Dad will just be living under a different roof.

I just can't believe this is happening.

As far as divorces go, I'm glad it's on good terms, but still... sorry to hear that, man.

It does sound like you have it better than I did, so that's definitely good. But still, somehow, I'm miffed that they'd divorce over it instead of simply separating. It's not like those who are married are obligated to live with each other, unless there's some kind of crazy law that I don't know about.

Sorry to hear that.  Hopefully it turns out okay, though.  Sometimes people actually get along better after they are divorced, especially if it is on good terms.

Thanks guys. This really means a lot to me. He's moving out on July 1st to live with a co-worker of his. It feels weird, ya know? Because I remember that for the longest time they were just attached at the hip! Next thing I know, something like what happened yesterday happens.

My Mom, being the pastor of the church we go to, was doing her job as is, and I dunno, I guess she suddenly started thinking about it, and broke down crying right before the scripture. So she went to the room behind the sanctuary, not before getting someone to read it for her so she could excuse herself. Her secretary and my Dad went to comfort her, and I didn't see him until after I went back home. Apparently, he asked if it would be better if he wasn't there, and she said yes. So he left.

And then, during the sermon, she was beginning to break down again, so before she cried in front of the whole congregation, she had to reveal what was going on to everyone. There were gasps of disbelief throughout the room.

So our last Hymn was "Here I am, Lord." I remember crying to this song when I was in the 6th grade. It's that beautiful a tune. And it did not help at all. My Mom broke down again and went to the entry room to cry her eyes out, in which case I joined her because I was going off as well. It was just not a fun time.

As time goes on, I think we will all come to accept the changes that are to come, but it's gonna be difficult. It doesn't help that my Sister's 24th birthday is Wednesday. Gee, this is something you wanna go through before your birthday, no matter how old you are. >_>

You know, thinking about it, I'd say you arguably have it even worse than I've had. My parents were divorced when I was eight years old (might've been six, but eh; I'm pretty sure it was an even number), so most of my life, I've lived with the realization that marriage isn't perfect and, aside from the eight years of having non-divorced parents, it kind of became the thing I identified my immediate family as. I hate to imagine what it's like for people who have lived all their lives with seemingly-happy parents, and looking back, my friend Stephanie might have had a nigh-identical ordeal as yours.

But when it comes down to it, it really stinks.

I can't say words alone will help, but maybe a little music can. Good for the soul, you know?

Thanks, Mags. That video helped a lot. It's always good to think that even in these dark and lonely times, there is still a little light coming through. Dad even wants to take me for some father-son events before he leaves. And hey, he is also willing to be there for every other event. Anime conventions, air shows, my marriage, holidays, etc. I'll also be inheriting a few things from him....such as the modem for his computer (Which is something I don't have).

I'm glad I have friends like you guys. You don't know how much this means to me right now.

I've been with this forum for six years (I think, I was either 13 or 14 when I joined.) All you guys are like a second family to me.

It just seems like my Mother doesn't care about him anymore. I was asking her about the stuff he would be taking with him, and she, without even looking at me, harshly said "That's his problem." I mean, jeeze, I know he's only got a month left to be with us, but...I don't know! It just disturbs me, is all.
