Standing in the moonlit clearing Raven looks to the sky.Looking up at the moon, that pale dusty orb, it reminds him of a night many moons ago.
Sitting on the roof of his house, he looked at the moon and the stars and felt assured about his place in the world. Just then, there was a scrambling noise behind him, he didn't turn as he knew who it was.'
'Hey, Lyn.'
'My name is Lynx.' She said frustrated as she pulled herself over the edge and up onto the rooftop.
'You didn't let me finish. I was going to say: Hey, Lyn...x.'
'Sure you were.' She said not believing a word of it. 'Why is it that every night, that the moon is full, you come up here to stare at it?'
'I have my reasons.' He said evasively. 'I could say the same to you - why do you come up here to be with me every night that I stare at the moon? Don't you sleep?'
'How can I?' When I can see your lonely silhouette against the moon.' She said emphatically.
'You don't need to worry about me. Go home back to your family.' He said calmly.
'What about your father; won't he be worried if he finds his only son has gone missing?'
He doesn't care about me. He blames me for my mothers death.'
'And you in turn, blame yourself, for Yue's death.' She said softly.
'If I had been faster she would still be alive and it that man had...'
'You can't keep blaming yourself over something that happened over two years ago.'
'Two years, three months.' He hung his head.'
'I care too much about you to see you suffer this much.'
'Is that the real reason; why you come up here?'Turning round finally.
'I don't like the idea of you beig up here thinking about what could've been.'
He smiled, 'Thank you.' Then he kissed her. A soft gentle kiss on her lips.
'I best be going back. It's late and I need to get some sleep.' She made her excuses as she backed away, flustered. As she reached the edge of the roof she turned around and with a final look over her shoulder she leapt away across the houses.'
He sat back down and looked at his surroundings covered with a blue hue and how peaceful and silent the world became when the sun went down. 'Still got my magic with the ladies. They all leave when they get the chance.' He mused.
As he looked at the moon he felt a presence behind him. He turned around and he didn't believe, couldn't believe, what he saw. Standing before him was a young girl with long white hair and wearing a delicate dress with short sleeves and a skirt which stopped at her knees, her skin was as white as the moon and her bare feet seemed to float just above the grass. It was Yue.
'It's been a long time, Raven.'
'Too long.'
'I come to ease your pain, to tell that there is nothing that you could have done.'
'I've heard that many times, from many people, I didn't expect to hear it from you.'
'Even if you had got to me on time the disease was to far gone.'
'Yue.'
'I don't want you to feel responsable for my death anymore. You don't have to worry about me.'
'I don't think that I can do that. You will always be on my mind and I will always feel the guilt of not being there with you.'
'I know that the only reason you weren't there was because you were trying to save me and I forgive you for not being there at my bedside. I would be angry if you had done anything less.
'You have no idea how much that means to me.'
'I have an idea.' She smiled.'i have to go.'
'Why now?' He shouted.
'Sorry?'
'Why have you decided to appear now, after all this time?'
'The spirit realm and the real world are closest at this time and the strength of your feeling brought me straight to you. Love is stronger even than death, I couldn't allow you to suffer anymore. Not because of me.'
'I'm sorry for causing you pain because of my own selfish guilt. Due to me even in death you can't find peace.'
She shook her head.'Live well, Raven.' She said and began to fade.
'You're leaving again. Again too soon.'
'If you should hear my voice, know that it is my spirit calling across time and space to yours.' And she faded away completely leaving behind a last message. 'I am at peace.'
Raven was left alone once again in the clearing, only him, the trees and the cold, blue light of the moon. Even though Yue herself had forgiven him, he still could not forgive himself. He made a vow not to live in the past and to move on from it. For as a wise man once said; we can move on from our past mistakes towards a brighter future.
