Glad as she was that the guards had fell asleep, Sheila dared not to light a torch until she had made a turn in the cave. Once she reached that turn, she worked on getting her area of the cave well lit. Then she sat down and waited; surely the gohma would come along any minute and then the young Hylian could succeed where others have failed.
The woman wondered what the Hylian Knights did to kill the giant spider. One thing was for sure: they hadn't read up on gohmas before rushing in to clear out the cave. Sheila had did her research and knew that gohmas held one weakness against non-Goron foes: their large eye and the brain that was directly behind it. Just poke it in the eye, she thought. That's all I have to do.
Even though gouging out the eye was a simple task, Sheila still felt nervous. Something could still go wrong. Oh, please, goddesses, don't let me die here, she prayed.
And then a sound, amplified by the cave, caught her ears. Sheila shot up from the rock she had been sitting on and drew her sword. After moments of tension, it appeared. And then it rushed towards her. Sheila froze up; she would never have guessed something that big could move that fast. The shock cost her. She screamed in pain as the gohma bit into her right shoulder. Dropping her blade, it barely registered that the giant spider had let her go. She began to run deeper into the cave.
Sheila didn't hear it pursue her. Did that mean she had escaped death? No. She could feel it now; she was feeling far too fatigued for only running this far. Poison, she thought. It's making me go to sleep. The Hylian female tried to fight the poison, but it was a losing battle.
After a few minutes, her blurred vision showed her two figures. She stumbled over to them, hoping that she had found safety. And then she began to fell, but one of the people caught her. As she began to black out, she recognized her catcher. "Father," she whispered, except no sound escaped her lips. And then she was gone.
--------------------
When she opened her eyes, she was greeted with a "Thank the goddesses you're all right."
"Father?" she said weakly.
But before Ichiro could say anything, her uncle yelled, "What the hell were you thinking?! You could've gotten yourself killed!"
"Tiberius, she's my daughter," Ichiro said sternly. "Let me deal with her." He looked down at the young warrior hopeful. "You knew it was dangerous," he said gently. "Why did you try to kill the gohma?"
"I thought that if I could succeed where the Hylian Knights failed, I would get in for sure."
"And just what did you plan to do once you saw it?"
"I read that a gohma's brain was located just behind the largest eye. I was going to stab it there, but I froze up."
Ichiro let out a small chuckle, and then he pulled his only child into a hug. "So, you did some research first, eh? You ought to let them know you did that. Remind them to go into battle prepared with knowledge as well as physical might."
"Dad, how did we escape that spider? I remember seeing someone else with you, but that's all."
The father helped the child sit up comfortably before answering. "A woman named Rose Hillmound helped us out. Lucky for us she was actually trained to fight gohmas."
Sheila looked around the room but saw no one but her father and uncle. "Where is she? I need to thank her."
"She had to get to North Castle. She was the General of the Tarm Army, and she had to go see our king." The young woman tried to get out of bed, but her surprised father held her down. "Hold on! You still need to rest. What do you think you're doing?"
"I'm going to go catch up to her."
"Wait until you're stronger, sweetheart. Please, don't cause your mother and I any more worry."
Sheila stopped struggling. "Okay, I'll wait a couple of days."
"Thank you." Ichiro kissed her forehead. "Now come, tell me how you've been doing these past few months."
