The Story So Far

Prologue
Lady Rose Hillmound was born as Rose Left in an aristocratic family in the Kingdom of Labrynna, but she had a lot of free will. Her parents didn't like this free will, so they tried to spank it out of her. At the age of six, she had had enough, so she ran away to the neighboring Kingdom of Tarm and was taken in by the Hillmound family, another aristocratic family. There, she became a subject of Tarm. Also, she met Baris Hillmound, a boy her age who aspired to be a bard of sorts at the local inn. Rose decided that her life was to help others, and the best way she thought she could do this was in the army. At the age of seventeen, she entered the Tarm Military Academy, and two years later she graduated as a captain (rather reluctantly). By then, Baris and Rose had fallen in love, and they married a year after Rose graduation (though they wouldn't have children).

A few days after the wedding ceremony, the general took charge of Rose's unit to investigate a group of miscreants. He forced them to go without armor, for he had heard that this group was no real threat. Rose was uneasy with this, but she said nothing so as not to get in trouble with the general, who was extremely sexist. When they got to the miscreants’ camp, they were gone. When the general said that they obviously fled from fear, and that they were to return to Tarm City immediately. Rose protested, saying that they should still look for the miscreants. When the general rudely suggested that she switch to a very short dress and dance for the men instead, she boldly suggested that he learn how to be a real general. The general threatened her with a court martial, and then he plunged his knife into Rose’s upper arm. Later that night, the general approached her, and Rose once again told him to be a real general. He lunged at her, knocking her off a nearby cliff (don’t ask me why she was near a cliff to begin with >.>). When she woke up, she was surrounded by a pack of wolves that had taken care of her. One of them spoke to her telepathically, and she quickly found the dead body of her general. The wolves led her to the Tarm City Cemetery, where she interrupted her own funeral.

The next day, Prince Doyle summoned Rose to the throne room, where he informed him that he was now King Doyle through the actions of the miscreants the general had severely underestimated. With the king assassinated, and no real military leader, the band of miscreants demanded that Doyle come to the outskirts of Labrynna and meet with their leader. So Doyle went, accompanied by Rose, who had been promoted to general (she accepted reluctantly). There, they learned that Rose’s parents were responsible for the assassination and the massacre of Rose’s unit. The Lefts gave Doyle their demands, and he refused, saying he would rather die first. When Rose’s father tried to arrange that, she stopped him. Her and Doyle’s lives would have been lost if it were not for the pack of wolves that had recently helped Rose.

Rose and Doyle returned to Tarm, where the next ten years passed with only a few major incidents. One day, Rose and her unit were returning to Tarm City. Baris had been traveling also, and both saw no reason why he couldn’t travel with the unit. As they neared the city, they were ambushed by a troop of stalfoses. They put up a good fight, but one by one, the humans lost their lives. Baris sacrificed himself so that Rose could escape and warn Tarm of the invading stalfoses. Rose was able to make it back in time to evacuate the city.

She led half of the city to the entrance of the Holodrum Lost Woods, the other half having left for Labrynna. When they emerged on the other side, the Golden Goddesses appeared to her in a dream. They gave her the ability to shape shift. Before leaving her, they explained to her about alternate universes and sent her to an alternate version of Hyrule.

(The Prologue is the basic back story for all versions of Rose in HA2 with the exception of the one in Blank's story.)

Vile Sister
When she woke, she met the adventurers Cloud and Kasei. After learning a bit about this new Hyrule, she went on her own way, drawn towards the Ruto Highlands. As she scaled the mountain, she was attacked by her sister, Veran. The latter quickly left, and Rose led a small chase with Cloud and Dogura around Hyrule to catch her. When they did, Veran knocked Rose unconscious, and she was taken to a nearby inn by the spirit of Baris. Cloud and Dogura stayed behind to fight, eventually killing Veran, who told them to warn Rose of someone else.

Draconic General
When Rose awoke, Cloud was there, but he immediately entered a trance. Dogura came in and explained to Rose what had happened. Then a Gerudo who called herself Firerova came in and asked Rose and Dogura for their help; both agreed and followed her to Parapa Desert (unfortunately, Dogura had a small debate with Firerova, and the latter held grudges easily with everyone but her sister). When they got to Icerova, Firerova’s sister, the three of them worked together to subdue and free her of a spell.

Shortly after Icerova returned to normal, she told Rose that a person they only knew as the Draconic General was after her. After that, Dogura went his own way, while the other three made their way to North Forest. Dogura met up with them again, and then a mostly drunken nomad by the name of Blank appeared. Icerova explained the situation to Blank, and he agreed to help them. Blank passed out, so the others went back to sleep, Icerova keeping watch. She spotted a young Hylian named Pyralin, and she invited him to join the group.

They journeyed up into the Ruto Highlands, where a stalfos and a lizalfos ambushed the group while Rose was off gathering firewood from a hidden thicket that she knew was nearby. When they had taken care of them, Rose returned with a squirrel, who told Rose that the Draconic General was her nephew, Onox, son of Veran. After a short outburst on Icerova’s part, they departed for Rauru Town, where the squirrel had told them Onox would be.

But as it turned out, the fight with the stalfos and lizalfos, as well as the following meeting with the squirrel, had been nothing but a dream, a dream shared by Rose, Icerova, and Firerova. Rose led them to Rauru Town, Icerova suggesting they meet at the Melodic Bard Tavern the evening they arrived there to discuss the dream. Once there, Icerova made good on her promise. After some more discussion, Taryo and Saber joined the group. After they were caught up on the situation, Onox himself came, sending Rose into a rage when he implied that it was his Stalfoses that were responsible for Baris's death. He informs them that a deluded mage calling himself Fate is after them, and forces his way into the group.

Meeting of the Shadow People
While Rose and company met in Rauru town, two Sheikah sisters named Hyneria and Marisa Ikana meet in North Forest in an attempt to get Hyneria's son back. The Sheikah mage Xokorn comes along first, however, and the two women decide to recruit his help. The mercenary and thief hid while the mage dealt with their father. Instead of bringing Kantoro, the son, as Hyneria had hoped, the Sheikah aristocrat brought along two mercenaries and a cleric. Hyneria and Marisa come out of hiding, and Xokomar, the father, left, ordering the mercenary group to kill the three Sheikah. With the help of Amelia Aestas, they manage to kill the mercs, and they head to Ruto Town to free Kantoro while the Hylian Scribe returned home to North Castle.

Fighting Fate
The group sets out, Onox leading the group through the Deku Woods, heading towards Parapa Desert. His reason is unknown yet. During a noon break for lunch, Icerova tells Rose about forced draconic heritages. He then reveals that they are after the Odrac Stone, but refuses to tell them what it is.

Rescue in Ruto and Temporary Haven
Hyneria and Marisa met up with Natasha, a mid-faerie who is a friend of Hyneria. They then meet up with Xokorn and a human nomad named Douglas Jay F. and his falcon, Seven. Together, they form a plan to take back Kantoro. The shortest of the Sheikah turned invisible and sneaked in while the rest of the group began battling the Ikana Mansion guards. After defeating two waves of the humans, Xokomar himself came out to face them, but his lack of battle experience quickly led him to his downfall. A few days later, a judge found the Sheikah guilty of rape and attempted murder, sentencing him to a life in prison. Xokomar threatened that a Revina would come back to Hyrule to get him out of prison, and together they would kill Marisa and Hyneria. Pushing the threat to the back of their heads, Marisa leaves North Castle a few days after the trial, taking Kantoro back to Saria Town with her while Hyneria settles some matters in North Hyrule.

Rose's alternate forms for stat battles:
Before I begin, yes, RG did give me permission to use alternate forms for Rose in stat battles. After a few of them, we'll see what needs tweaking, to quote him. Hopefully, they're fine they way they are, but if need be, I will make changes.

And to reassure you all, I'm only using Rose's dragon form(s) in my own story; I can't bring myself to hassle you all with worrying who's in the way of her breath weapon and making the necessary reflex saves (all will be explained below). *cough* Of course, there may be exceptions. >>


SPL cost formula: Base 3 + 1 per stat category increase or change + 4 per ability. Can only be in form for three rounds. Must wait at least one round to transform again. Can end transformation early, but must still wait at least one round to transform again. When transforming, talents that increased STR, DEF, and AGI do not carry over. Armor and weapon bonuses remain the same in humanoid forms such as Deku and Goron.

Breath weapon (which adds 2 to the SPL cost) deals 25 DMG to any in the area of the breath weapon (can be reduced to 12 DMG if targets succeed DC 16 Reflex save [d20+AGI]). Depending on color dragon she turns into, her breath weapon can change. Red and gold dragons breath a cone of cold; black and copper dragons breath a line of acid; blue and bronze dragons breath a line of lightning, green dragons breath a cone of corrosive gas (acid), white and silver dragons breath a cone of cold, and brass dragons breath a line of fire. Cones go out to 30 ft. and reaches a width of 40 ft. Lines go up to 60 ft. and has a width of five feet.
Claw does 15 damage (base of 6 plus STR). If Rose learns how to Dual Wield, she may attack with another claw; DMG penalty still applies. This will increase the SPL cost by 1 per level.
SPL cost: 13 (14 with Dual Wield L2, and 15 with Dual Wield L3)

Grapple: After a successful claw attack (which deals 14 DMG [base 6 plus STR]), Rose may pull the defender into a grapple. Defender may make an opposed Strength check (both roll d20 plus STR; higher check wins) to escape grapple on each initial grapple and turn thereafter. Supposing that Rose has the enemy in a grapple on the second turn of her transformation, she may make an attack roll (neither has AGI added to roll) to bite the enemy (which deals 12 DMG [base 4 plus STR]). On the final turn of Rose’s transformation, if Rose still has enemy in grapple, she pushes away the enemy, dealing guaranteed claw damage as she does so. While in the grapple, the enemy can only try to escape.
If Rose knows how to Dual Wield, she may attack with two claws; each level of Dual Wield adds 1 SPL to the cost)

Ice Shield - Summons a shield made out of ice. Gives a +3 DEF bonus against close combat attacks (such as swords); lasts for two rounds. Costs 7 SPL to create.

Team Attacks
Wall of Water - Icerova forms a wall of ice around the target; Firerova then forms a wall of fire to melt the ice. The falling water deals 16 damage. Spell resistance applies as it normally does. Costs 6 SPL, split evenly between the twins.

Note: Can cast Elemental Burst using a different element (except for their opposite element [Icerova can't cast fire attacks and Firerova can't cast water or ice attacks]), but at three less damage than normal. Can also learn other spells, but only up to L1.

Born around the era of the Hero of Time, Sheena and Haru Veilmist showed excellent use of magic early in life. Their mother showed them to the Gerudo witches Koume and Kotake, who agreed to school them in the magic arts, along with their surrogate son, Ganondorf Dragmire. Sheena was personally tutored by Koume, who taught her how to use her ice magic, and Kotake taught Haru everything she knew about fire magic. When they came of age, the Veilmist sisters learned of Koume and Kotake’s evil attentions and ran off to the Desert Colossus. Sheena had intended to ask the Goddess of the Sand for advice, but Haru had asked for an escape. The Goddess of the Sand requested the latter’s wish, pulling them out of their time and dimension to that of the one they’re in. And from here on out, the rest of their tale is intertwined with that of Rose’s.

Icerova is usually the wiser of the two, and Firerova easily holds grudges if a person doesn't make a very good first impression.

Alternate stories of Rose

Force of Gold
Rose had been in Hyrule for quite some time when she ran into a group of adventurers headed by the mysterious Sheikah Alpha. There she learned about the Hakiems, a secret society of assassins. Rogue Rendezvous
Rose and Pyralin heard of a crime circle based in Ruto Town and agreed to work together to bring them to justice. They met in front of the Windmill to meet Hyneria Ikana, their informant. Before the Sheikah thief or the human ranger could arrive to meet Pyralin, the mercenary Saber slid down in front of the Hylian ranger, where the latter invited the former to help. Once all four were together and Hyneria told what she knew, they agreed to meet at the Black Thorn Tavern at midnight to make plans. Rose and Hyneria arrived early, and when midnight came, Pyralin came in, followed by three grunts of the crime circle they were hunting. After a short scuffle that Saber arrived in the middle of, they sat down to make their plans, deciding that Rose should disguise herself as a grunt and lead them into a trap to clear out the first warehouse. However, when they tried to put that plan into action, Rose and Hyneria were forced to enter a portal, followed by the mage that had trapped them. On the other side of the portal was the Windmill. Where the mage is leading them, they are unsure of yet.

Twilight Guardians
A year after her arrival in Hyrule, Rose found herself in North Castle. There, she ran into some of the friends she had made: Dogura, Alex, Tayro, Blank, and Alpha. There, she learned from Dogura that he and Alpha were planning something, but did not mention details until they met at the Ornery Cucco Tavern. There, Alpha outlined his plans for the Twilight Guardians, a guild dedicated to the protection of the people of Hyrule when the Exiles attacked. But instead of their first fight being against Exiles, it was against a group of Hylian Knights who came to arrest them as traitors. After that group was defeated and all but Alpha had left, the Sheikah mage learned that the Exiles have dispersed for the time being.

Meeting at the Stock Pot Inn a little while later, Rose saw that everyone but Tayro had made it. His arrival came in an unexpected fashion, for he had attacked Dogura, labeling him as a traitor to the Twilight Guardians. Dogura led the Guardians to an abandoned construction site, where he has asked the mages of the group to perform some kind of ritual.

Marisa works as a mercenary, but her skill with her sword is great enough to earn her the nickname Swordmaster of the Shadows.
(Bonus note: Named after Marisa, a myrmidon from Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. She also share the same looks. Her sword, Neor'cer Gahc, is modeled after the Killing Edge in the same game.)

Explanations
Hyrule's Alternate Dimensions:
According to a legend only known by the most educated scholars, two entities called Fate and Destiny created the universe and the first living beings within it. Some argue that for Fate and Destiny it was a large scale game of chess; others believe that they only wished to watch their creations interact with each other. Either way, a theory began to stem from this legend. As the first creatures made a choice, another universe split off from the first one, sharing a similar past, but a different present, for in the second universe the option that was not chosen was carried out. As more decisions were made in each universe, more universes branched off, creating what some would call a time tree, others a time root.

All scholars can agree on two things: if this theory and legend is indeed true, it would be impossible to determine which universe is the first universe Fate and Destiny made. And short of Fate and Destiny interfering, no one will be able to enter an alternate universe.

The Veilmist Sister's Spellcasting:
Excerpt from Force of Gold VIII: Castle Liberation
The bond between twins is indeed a strange thing. It becomes stranger for the Veilmist sisters, for it is how they cast their magic and how they can survive any temperature change.

Icerova is constantly absorbing heat from the air around her, without even having to think about it. The bond with her sister sends all the heat to Firerova. As a result, Icerova's body was immune to cold for it was always cold itself, and this low body temperature negated the heat of the desert. And Firerova's body was used to the desert heat in a way no other Gerudos could be used to it, and this metaphorical fire in her blood kept her warm in the heart of winter and on the frigid heights of any mountain.

This bond is also the source of their spellcasting. Icerova's ice spells began with a gathering of water droplets in the air, quickly forming into ice as the heat was sucked out of them. The heat then went to Firerova, who used it to ignite the air or any other fuel source into a blazing fire.

One might think that they could reverse this process. However, cold is nothing but the absence of heat; a fact that the Veilmists knew very well. Of course, their elemental weapons didn't last forever, but that was explained by the magic holding them together. Once the magic was spent, air was pushed away from Firerova's scythe, extinguishing it. For Icerova, the energy of the magic leaving the icy scimitar is enough to loosen the bonds to turn it back into water.
One might also think that the Gerudo's radiate heat (or the lack of it). However, the aura is not as large as they might think (as Drommlin did in Force of Gold VIII: Castle Liberation). The aura is microscopic and can only be felt by making contact with either of the sisters. Such contact is never as harmful as it would seem; Firerova merely feels warm to the touch, and Icerova's skin is always cool, feeling as pleasant as a glass of iced water on a parched throat (a pleasantry usually reserved for the wealthy who are able to buy the expensive freezing wands from local mages).

As shown in Force of Gold VIII: Castle Liberation, Firerova's fire scythe can only damage objects if she is pouring heat from her body into the weapon; a safeguard for if she ever needs to let go of the elemental weapon. Also demonstrated in Force of Gold VIII: Castle Liberation, Icerova's ice scimitar is vulnerable to magic (or any other force) shattering her elemental weapon.

While Sheena deals with ice often, if she can absorb heat from it, she can freeze it, though it won't necessarily turn into ice. Of course, since heat is merely motion, Icerova can freeze anything. On the same end, Firerova can pour heat into anything, even if it does not catch fire.

Mid-faeries:
Natasha is from a sub-race of faeries, falling somewhere between the Great Faeries and the lesser healing faeries, earning the name mid-faeries. Mid-faeries stand between two and three feet, but they have the innate ability to shrink to the size of lesser faeries if need be. Their wings are strong enough to enable flight, but not strong enough to carry anything weighing more than them. They are found on the eastern continent of Hyrule.

Forced Draconic Heritage:
A relatively unknown, dangerous process to gain the power of dragons. However, the power is more of an illusion, for it does nothing more than slightly exaggerate a person's existing power. People who take a forced chromatic draconic heritage are seeking physical power, while those who take a forced metallic draconic heritage are seeking magical power.
