Long before the colonization of this land by the Hylians, fairies and spirits alike ruled and roamed free. Among them was a beautiful and powerful fairy who enjoyed watching herself everyday in a crystal clear lake. She delighted herself calling the attention of every creature that arrived there to be amazed by her beauty. But she would never take someone to be her mate, no one to be at her height.

When the Hylians arrived, among them were two young skilled lieutenants, they had fought many battles together on the way to the then unnamed land. Even when the interests for position and power aroused, their strong bonds kept their friendship burning strong.

It happened one day that both friends wandered into the woods away from their camp, the same woods where the crystal lake was. The fairy, who was watching from afar, was instantly seduced by both of the Hylians' proportions, who couldn't have been carved by none other than the goddesses themselves.

She appeared before the two warriors, they both fell instantly for her appearance, they both desired her. Each of them was thinking the same "My best friend would reject her to let me have her". They both noticed that their desire for the fairy was so strong that the only way for one to have her was for the other to be dead. So both decided that a duel was the only way out. The fairy was delighted, as two had never fought each other over her, it only fed her vanity.

Both warriors pulled their weapons out, the first using a heavy blade and the other using twin blades, they fought for three days and three nights. Exhausted, they fell to the ground at the same time, for one's skills mirrored the other's, and looked into each other's eyes for the first time since the battle started. One (it doesn't matter who he was) walked towards the other and helped him stand. Their friendship couldn't be affected by mere appearances, and lending each other his shoulder to stand, they started to walk away from the lake.

The fairy's vanity was shattered by this two young men, who preferred their friendship over her. Unable to believe that bonds could be more important than beauty, her heart began to rot, and in the middle of her fury, she cursed the young Hylians.

You shall kill each other, just to be born again and repeat the circle as long as this world exists, you shall leave your friendship behind and you shall battle for countless ages to die in the blade of each other.
Born to die. Die to be born again.

As she said this, her essence dissipated, for she couldn't stand the thought of a being wanting something over her. Her essence stained the woods and so the lake became a swamp as both friend's blood spilled over the soil.

Born to die. Die to be born again.
