The sun had set, the moon was barely over the peaks of the mountain. The smooth winds whistled as they passed over stones that littered the flatlands. They have always done this, they will always do this.
Night.
Various creatures existed in the highlands, many wolfos and other hunting beasts. Kasei, the Rebel Flame, need not worry about them, he was far worse. He stood now, at the base of a particular cliff off to the side of the flatlands, one that held special meaning to him. He knelt down, and bowed his head, closing his eyes. The aged shiekah had climbed the rocks to this particular spot for one reason, and one reason only. This was the last place he stood before he left Hyrule a hundred years ago. This is the spot where he held his last breath in this world. To him, this place was the first chapter in his story, and the last part of his prologue. It held a simple peace, one similar to that he longed for most. It was quiet, even with the whistling winds and the howls of animals. It had it’s own tranquility.
“Content with just living in the past?” An aged voice asked, one all to familiar in Kasei’s mind.
His eyes snapped open wide, he rose from the spot he prayed, not one, but two scimitars already in his hands. He pointed them across the plains at his enemy, the one who raised him to be an elite warrior, the one who caused him eternal pain. The one who stole everything from him. His grandfather, his nemesis.
Jormand Gobi stood tall, facing his grandson, his gray beard waving in the wind, his simple robe not moving at all. “And….how have you been?” The old man asked again.
A roar of rage escaped Kasei lips, as he launched himself across the plains at lightning speed, the rocks underneath him cracking, his two blades ready, ready to cleave Gobi’s head from his shoulders. Kasei was there now, he swung his swords, another roar emanating from his mouth as he swung.
No cut. No sound to tell Kasei if his blades hit home. All he knew was that Gobi’s left knee was embedded now, deep in his grandson’s gut. Blood flew from Kasei’s mouth, into the air. Gobi’s left, claw like hand flew up, grabbing Kasei’s throat, and pulling him in.
“Well, someone isn’t happy to see me.” He said quietly, bringing his right arm to his left side, and swinging with the force of god.
Instant pain followed. Kasei was launched, no, hurled into the air, spinning with the force of the blow, he was being thrown towards the Cliffside he was under seconds ago.
A successful *crash!*, of course, followed by boulders falling from the rock face, meant Kasei had indeed hit, he was unable to stop himself in time. He was now embedded into the rock, spread-eagle, blood pouring out of his face and gut, hundreds of feat above ground. He, unfortunately, could barely comprehend that, as Jormund had already grabbed his grandson by the neck once more, was floating while he strangled his only relative. “Now now, don’t you miss me?” He said violently, ripping Kasei out of the rocks and throwing him down to the ground below, where another crack told him some of his grandson’s bones were broken. He landed on the ground softly.
“Hmph. Don’t tell me you have learned nothing over the hundred years you were gone. Don’t you want to take revenge on me?” The old man questioned.
Kasei’s eyes fired open, and he reached one ragged, bruised arm out of the hold he was thrown into. He stood up unevenly, swords in hands. “JUST DIE!” He roared, swinging the blades. An inferno, one that could encompass an army, was released, it consumed the flatlands as it raged towards Gobi, who stood stock-still. The fires of hell itself overcame him.
Kasei fell on one knee. He stared at the inferno he released, rage coming to boil within him. The fires died down, and Gobi stood, unharmed.
“Kasei, do you really think that your rage can beat me? Do you think that wild emotions can bring me down? Who do you think of when you strike at me? Do you think of Aria? Do you remember your wife? Would she have wanted you to act like this? Do you think of your children, and how they would react….if their father was just like their murderer.”
“SHUT UP!” Kasei roared, flying across the plains, swords swinging, countless tears and drops of blood trailing behind him. He stabbed Gobi in the gut. “They were everything to me, EVERYTHING! But you, you took them all! My wife, my children, my friends, all of them! All of them consumed by your wretched greed!” The Rebel Flame cried out, every word expressed as he cut through his grandfather, who smiled.
“Yes, Kasei, yes. Let it out. Release your rage, your grief, your hate, all of them you have holed up for a hundred years. Just remember, though. Revenge will not stop what I have done. It will not bring the dead back to life. You will never see Aria again, you will never meet your beloved, even if you receive that death you have longed for for so long. Nothing can change the past….” Gobi said, as he vanished.
Kasei looked on, shocked, tears falling down his face. He looked upon the uncharred landscape. No scorches, no cracks or holes. It was all an illusion.
Kasei held his face in his hands, and he cried. He cried the first real tears he had since he was a child.
