The Last Dance

The two warriors ran towards each other, blades ready. Their swords clashed, and sparks flew and danced from their blades. They pushed away from each other, then ran to meet again. They clashed again, they pressed closer and closer until their faces nearly touched. One man spun around, twisting behind the other, startling him. He side swiped his sword into his foes back. Blood spilling everywhere. The victim fell, screaming in pain. The other, standing above his foe, sword raised above his head and eyes filled with anger. He wailed as he brought his blade down upon his opponent. There was a sickening sound followed by silence. Silence. Nothing but Silence for what seemed like eternity. The victor dropped his bloodied sword to the ground and looked around. Waiting. Waiting for something, someone, to move. But there was nothing. He was the last survivor of and army of over thirty-thousand men and boys. And after he was done looking and hoping and cursing and crying, he fell. Fell to his knees and roared. Roared at the Gods and the Daemons. Roared until hell and the heavens shook. And once his voice finally gave. He stood up and walked through the battlefield. And as it rained he heard the sounds of battle drums. Then he heard the valiant cries of his late friends and comrades as they charged into hell it self. And then he heard the screams they made as they fell. As they died for their homeland.
He walked for miles until nightfall came. Then, in the distance, he could see the lights of a lone tavern in a tiny little town. When he finally opened the door for the tavern he was relieved to see other signs of life. But the noise of laughter and drunken cries and anger brought back horrid memories that he had to fight so very hard to suppress. He finally gained enough composure to take a seat at the bar. The barman walked up to him and, as he cleaned a dirty cup, asked him,
"Oi, where you be coming from with all dat' blood on ye?" The man looked at him with a weary yet insane smile and said in a cracked voice,
"My fine sir, I come from the place where no man should go. A place where brother fights brother, and a father executes his own son. Now, if you give me a good ol' ale, I might just tell you my journey to hell and back."

And so the man began his story. Even when the bar was closed, they sat in the candle light. This is his story.
((I know it's weird but Im going to tell the story in the third person))

He awoke to the sound of arguing voices outside, and the sea crashing against the rocks. A cool breeze blew in from the open window near his bed, and he shivered as he got up from under his warm covers. His wife awoke and rubbed her eyes.
"Where are ye goin Ed?" she asked as he put on his britches and vest. He turned to her and said,
"There's someone makin an aweful din out there. I'm goin ta tell em to shut their traps." She sat up, a little more awake,
"Well be careful, you know how dangerous some drunkerds get." he sighed and made his way over to her. And as he kissed her forehead he said,
"Go back to bed Maggie, I'll be fine." she smiled and did just that. Fell back into an unaware sleep."

He got outside and pulled a fag out of his overcoat pocket. He lit it and took a long drag. As he exhaled the smoke he made his way over to a group of arguing men. As he drew nearer he noticed that two of them were guards.
"What are ye all goin off about this late at night, eh? Me an the wife woke up to you all makin this aweful sound." The men turned to look at him. One of them spoke up,
"Imperials are headin this way, Edmund. Form what this man is sayin, the Emperor is making his move on the lands that want democracy. We are bein told to leave or die." Edmund was shocked. Their country had been devided between the Imperial Kingdom and the Democratic Alliance for hundreds of years. Why would the Emperor threaten us wih war after these many years of peace?
"Thats insane! How can he do that?!" the others shook their heads. One man spoke up,
"I don't know about ye, but Im joining the resistance, I won't sit back while my country is taken by pigs." the man pulled out a fag and lit it up. And just when Ed was getting ready to speak, the Imperials showed up, ready for war.

It's a British term for cigarette. I think editing it might be a good idea, though...

It's also Irish and I think French. But imagine the characters with Irish accents. And I won't edit it simply because I'm using it in an innocent way to add more realism to the story, not the American term for a homosexual.
