Where the Oracles take place.

The Oracles, in terms of where they fit in the timeline, are one of the most confusing elements of the timeline. They do not have any references to any other games, nor do other games reference them (excluding brief appearances of all three Oracles in The Minish Cap, but these aren't specific references to the events of the games themselves)

So then, where DO the Oracles fit in? I think I've found some clues.

The plot of the game centers around Twinrova's attempt to resurrect Ganon. To put it simply, resurrect = dead. It should also be noted that the completed Triforce is at Hyrule Castle, as shown in the opening sequence of either game.

Taking into account Ganon being dead and the Triforce completed, the Oracles can only be placed after three games:

Adventure of Link - Link killed Ganon in the prequel game The Legend of Zelda, and by the end of the game all three pieces of the Triforce have been gathered.

Link to the Past - Link killed Ganon at the end of the game (or at least destroyed his physical form, since only the Silver Arrows can destroy him), and the Triforce has been completed since the beginning of the game.

The Wind Waker - Link killed Ganon at the end of the game (or at least destroyed his physical form) and the Triforce was completed.

However, taking into account that Hyrule Castle, as shown in the opening of ether game, was in a forest, and not underwater, the Oracles could not take place after The Wind Waker, therefore leaving only Adventure of Link and Link to the Past. To strengthen this theory, both of those games were made before the Oracles, so there was already at least one game the requirements.

It should also be taken into account that the castle at the beginning of the game is Hyrule Castle. While some may argue that it is likely an abandoned castle, being alone in a forest rather than near a large town, look at the end credits of a linked game. Zelda is shown watching a fallen star from a castle balcony, and from that scene you can clearly see trees, indicating a forest. We can also not count "It is not stated to be Hyrule Castle so therefore it isn't Hyrule Castle" as proof. For example, just because I don't say I have a head isn't proof I don't have a head.

Some may also argue that the Oracles cannot take place after those games because Twinrova died in Ocarina of Time. We mustn't forget, however, the constant theme of reincarnation in the Zelda games. Link and Zelda are generally considered to be reincarnated with each game (unless stated otherwise), and Ganon has been shown reincarnating himself in Four Swords Adventures.
