I think many of us have imagined at least once, a change in the gameplay, or storyline in the Zelda games, one of my many thoughts is: what if the hero of time would belong to another race, you can sort of imagine what I'm saying if you remember MM, he could be called Link as well!, or what about a full RPG game incluiding a member of each race in your party? for some reason each of them the hero of time, anyway, I know any change that includes Link would affect serously the "feeling", do we need a change? that is my question.

Evilslayer

There's only one Hero of Time, and he's a Hylian. :P But seriously, I don't think it would work if the Hero is of a different race. The Hylians are the chosen race of the gods, not Humans or Zolas or whatever.

And (I just has to mention this) making a game where you control a party would make it LESS RPG-like. As you probably know, RPG stands for role-playing game. If you control a party you're NOT playing a role (unless they make it a mix between Golden Sun and Tales of Symphonia).

I'm kinda confussed, you say that party games are not RPG, right, then what about mario RPG for instance, I think that the fact that you controll several characters in this sort of games, wont change the fact that is a role playing game, do you have to be alone to be a real RPG?, why not to take the role of several characters?, even if the level of interventions of the other characters is large, the main character will be still yourself.Actually in most of the games you take the role of at least one character, so, when can we say an RPG game is an RPG game?

Evilslayer

Well, in my opinion the world has to look and act like a real world, and whatever you do have an affect on your relation with the various character.

You can have a party, but only if you only control one and he/she doesn't talk unless when you can decide what he/she shall say. I say only one, because if not you won't really play a role.

And then there's the evolving system. It doesn't necassarily have to be stats, as long as it is some kind of an evolving system.

That's my opinion of what makes a real RPG. ;) But of course, this means that not that many real RPGs have been made.
