MagmarFire

I have another theory.

Maybe Link was being bullied by someone, and the bully dyed his hair purple against his will. ;D :P

Advanceshipping and Rion had better be Chuck Norris approved.

I believe his hair is pink, but it's not very bright pink, so I can see how it's purple.  And they didn't make it blond in the GBA version.  I mean, I can see how it would be that way in 1991, but in 2002???  My theory is that it came out in April, so as an April Fool's joke, Ganon put pink hair dye in Link's shampoo.  ;D

Hi no Seijin

Well, for the GBA version, they wanted a pixel-perfect translation, so Link's hair had to stay the same color.  Although, calling it pixel-perfect is somewhat foolish, since there were small changes, but the overall style of the graphics were the same.

i want link to have blue highlights in his hair .yey that wil be good

newbkyng

isn't it just a technical glitch? But if it was, it would be fixed in the gba version. How very odd...

Link was a rebellious young child;his uncle just never understood him.

Shadow Link

i never really paid any attention to the color of his hair, nor did i care

I always thought the light purple/pinkish was really weird and...unsightly. :D
But I think sometimes they change colours so they stand out when there isn't a lot of detail to work with. I do remember seeing something (I know that's not terribly helpful!) once, a watercolour by some Japanese artist, and the girl in the picture was supposed to have light brown hair. Instead, they painted in a similar purple/pink. Although that definitely wasn't pixellated, it might have been sort of the same situation.
I don't know if there's some illustrating technique that uses specific colour switch-outs, or something.

flaminghalo

another wierd thing: the game shows link's purple/pink hair, but the official art shows link with blonde hair.

Fishalicious

They could only have so many colours in the system. It's because there wasn't any other colour to choose, I assume.

Bboy94

Yes, I doubt highly that they did that on purpose.

They wouldn't have run out of colors to choose from, because colors are determined by hex codes, not by people making them.

No, more likely they tried to make the color for the dark world Bunny-Link a more reasonable choice.  I mean, a blonde rabbit would just not fit the mood of the game.

That, or they thought it would look like blonde from far away.

I always thought the purple was part of the hat...
