Jack Half a Prayer

Here's some info on my new character, Sheng Long. I don't want to reveal too much, because I want much of who and what he is to be a suprise, but I can't resist blowing my own horn. So read on!

Sheng long stands a little less than two spans (6 feet). He has copper skin and grey eyes and hair. His hair comes to his knees and he wears it tied back or, sometimes, in a braid. He wears a necklace of wooden balls around his neck. The only oddity about this necklace is a small leather pouch that hangs just over his heart. Usualy he is bear to the waist, and wears a hakama or pair of really baggy pants with crisp folds. But sometimes he will wear a rough tunic wich apears to have had the sleves torn off. This too is a flat black. His body is covered in small scars (especialy his hands) and there is a larger scar down his back from his left shoulder to his right hip. It is about a palm (5 inches) wide.

I really wanted to something starkly different from Jack, so I started toying around with ideas and thought that the thing that was furthest from Jack's urbane, wordy, rougishness, was a barbarian. Seeing as that is not a class anymore, I chose the next best thing, a nomad. Sheng Long is a barbarian in the truest sence. I live in wyoming right next to the reservation (my best freind is native) and so there is an infulx of native culture here. Sheng Long's personaltiy and sence of style and honor will be tied very closely to his "barbarian" lifestyle. He will have very specific aspects, rituals, and traditions that he WILL NOT violate. much of this has already been seen on what little bit of HA2 We have.

I've been watching a lot of old kung-fu movies recently and so i decided I wanted to play with that too, since we now have an unarmed fighting style I decided that Mr. Long would folow that path. The only bit of his back story I'm going to reveal is that his parents were killed somewhere in all of the "rebel" threads that popped up in the last game. And that the scar on his back has something to do with that too. After their death, Sheng Long wandered into the wilds where he found the man who trained him in unarmed combat. Something has happened to that man (THATS RIGHT I KILLED YOUR MASTER!) and Sheng Long is on a quest to find him or avenge his death.  This very chop-socky theme will be meshed with the native theme to make his lifestyle and beleif somewhere between Shoshoni and Japanese. Rather like the Aeil for those who have read the wheel of time series.

More later! feel free to ask questions. I may answer them....
If they are clever.

Very nice as usual, Dylan. Great description; I can really picture what Sheng (is that what we'd call him?) looks like... save, of course the 5 INCH THICK scar running down his back like a "bible-times" sash. *eyes bulge* Jk. His huge amount of (head) hair is something, too. I imagine that it kind of coheres together rather than flying all over the place.

Characteristics are great; the open-hand fighting is an awesome touch--I hope it works out well for Sheng Long (I personally have some fears of under-poweredness, but I'm an old worry-wort anyway). Can't wait to see how he turns out, but then again, that's true for everybody ^^. Good job picking a human and adding to the species diversity of Hyrule (maybe "multi-culturation" is a better term...).  :D

Master Goron

Definately great work, very nice. Have a few questions though:

Is Sheng supposed to be a serious or playful type?
About how strong is he?
How intelligent is he?
Friendly or angry at the world?

I guess more of his personality would be good to know, or something like that.

Still, Sheng seems like an amazing character. :>) <Homemade smilie :)

Jack Half a Prayer

As for Sheng's power...
Jack was invunerable. His history made it so that he was a great mage, but that was a path that he denied, and instead took the way of the theif. This is a great explanation for his weakness when he started. With Jack i did a little "practice" letting him hone his skills in threads like rooftops and such.

Sheng is still a student. He has no where near mastered his abilities. Now I would of course love to have him kick ass, but were in a level based system so level based he must be. I will of course be shooting for the RP bonus every time and I will also be shooting for the RP reward every chance its available (Yes, thats a challenge! Lets see your tiger crane match my eagle's claw!) so Idealy Sheng will get his TP up very fast and he can kick ass.

I made these (and other, still unrevealed) choices explicitly. I'm going to push the system to its limits. Sheng may be underpowered, but its because I made these choices in hopes that some aspects of the game that might otherwise fall by the wayside will remain active.

Sheng will be both a serious and comic character. His source material (kung fu movies) are both as so is he. As for his attitude and mind, you'll just have to wait and see.
