Hello my friends, I know its been a while huh? Well, I  have come crawling back on my knees to ask for forgiveness and help. I am going to the much awaited, and possibly over priced, AFO. Anime Festival Orlando. And I have decided to cosplay as the famed, Weighted Companion Cube. Ive seen many ways to do this, but I was wondering if any of you had any 'profesional' advice on the subject. Does anyone know?

Commodore Axilon

Crawl around inside a painted cardboard box.

You know, like Solid Snake.

Keaton

I am with Commodore on this one.

Actually, ask Fisk.  She knows everything, costume-wise.

Fishalicious

I saw a guy with a weighted companion cube at Ikkicon! I wanted to ask to hold it, but I scared him away.

As for the weighted companion cube, you sure chose a very... awkward thing to cosplay as. :3 You could go in a dressed up box (upholstry foam at Wal-Mart- carve it with scissors, it's soft, and $7 for 16" squares 1in thick) with some sort of cheap fabric covering it, and painted with acrylic.

I suggest, if you have no artistic skill yourself, to get a friend who's fairly good, or has some artistic skill, to help you paint the designs.

There could be a flap on one end so you can crawl in, and holes for your legs to fit in... though I would suggest having one large hole (teehee) covered in a white spandex with two small slits in it. You could fit your legs through (black leggings or even just pants could work-just tuck in the box for photos, which you'll get a million of!)

I have to go, but I'll have diagrams for you tomorrow.

Actually Solid Snake inside his box was one of my first choices. But I decided that crawling around on my knees in a dirty floor all day. :)

EDITED!!!: I didnt notice your post sorry. Ok diagrams would be nice! Thanks for the advice.

Yeah, sorry, I had to go as I typed that. Actually, this would help you buff out the cardboard box. Yay Google!

So, when I said to make a flap, I meant like this:

The flap is the entire side of the companion cube, and closes with some sort of "latch." Velcro is good, but very little pressure is needed to unlatch it on something like that.

The bottom would have a circle cut out where the normal circle would be. In it, stretch spandex across it and glue it with E6000 or hot glue and hold it in place for a while (... with something OTHER than your own hand/arm. trust me. hot glue is hot. >:) and then sew it on the edge with a whipstitch.

Then cut two pluses "+" in the spandex. These will be for your legs to fit through.

For photos, you could bend your legs inside the box and just sit there:

Also, the stuff I'm talking about shaping up the box with is upholstery foam, like this.

It goes on with hot glue pretty well. You can buy a package of 4 16" squares 1 inch thick at Wal-Mart packaged as "Urethane Foam Squares." It's kind of got this chemical smell to it, but it's not too overpowering. I opened two packages and let them sit for like... a week before I used any of the foam.

You could paper mache the whole thing, sand it, and then paint it I guess, or you could lay down white cotton fabric on the flat surfaces before foaming it, then wrap the foam with pink cotton and then attach them. Hell, you could use Vinyl even, but that'll get expensive quick.

Oh, also, I forgot you needed to see: I suggest on the opposite side of the flap, cut out a small circle, about an inch smaller than the heart's circle, and then fold the cardboard out so it sticks up a little. Fill in the small circle with buckram (the "iris" in this eye) painted with fabric markers (or just permanent markers.)

Voila, you can see, move, and be hidden in a giant box!

Obviously, you'd have to take breaks to eat pocky, drink ramune, and probably get into the dealer's room if it's packed. Is this a big con, by the way?

Takun

Its pretty big for the people here. Its just a tad smaller than Megacon. But any way, thanks a lot for all the advice, diagrams, ect. But ahh, I think I'll pass on the spandex.

Fishalicious

I was just saying to use spandex on the bottom part so your legs can get out and be rather concealed. But hey, you could just leave it open. -shrug-

I know someone who went to Megacon, so I was just curious in the size. Actually, two of my friends might be going to AFO. Anyway, that's besides the point.

I wish I lived near people I knew so I could see them at cons. XD Or so people could see me~

Takun

Yeah, me and three friends are going. One is going to be a girl from lucky star. Another is going as Sailor Moon. And the last is I think going as someone from The Meloncholy of Harui Suzumia.
Oh and I forgot, I think my other friend is going as Link.

Fishalicious

Yeah, I'm going with three friends to a con, too. .. Wait... four. Anyway, we're going as two skull kids (Joe and Steph) with changeable masks, a goron (... Steven), Wolf Link (that's me! he's in need of makeover) and... possibly someone who has nothing to do with Zelda. It depends on if Sarah wants to cosplay as anyone from Zelda (she'd make a good Sheik, but I'm thinking she's just going to go as herself) or not.

Oh, and you can hook up a computer fan or eight in the box. Tutorial

I have one in Wolf Link's snout so I don't DIE.

Takun

I might go as Skull Kid next year, I'd have a majora mask. You should post pics up of you guys cosplay outfits. Id love to see your long awaited wolf link and the skull kids. And thanks! Those fans might come in handy!

Fishalicious

Yeah, we're going to have lots of pictures of our cosplay, but Steph and Joe have been busy (unfortunately, their beloved Aussie died last week >:) and I've been killing myself trying to get fur in the mail.
