AIM sucks.

I upgraded to the most recent version of AIM last night, and I didn't like it. It was too complicated compared to what I had been using for so long, and I didn't like its layout or the way it looked at all... so I uninstalled it and tried to find the version I had. So far, every attempt I've made to get my old version back has proved fruitless. It's either the wrong version entirely, or I can't use it because AIM keeps shutting down the program and telling me to upgrade. I'm stuck using Meebo for the time being.

Why does it have to be so hard to downgrade?

Step 1: Uninstall AIM completely
Step 2: Go to http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=aim and download and install whichever version you were using before.
Step 3: ???
Step 4: PROFIT!

Already tried that. Trust me, that was the first thing I did.

I think I actually got the precise version I had before, but AIM kept shutting it off and telling me to upgrade.

Then simply uninstall it completely.

You have to delete the System32 folder.

In all seriousness, I can't figure this out.

1.) I uninstall AIM completely.
2.) I download and install the version I used to have.
3.) AIM shuts itself down and tells me to upgrade "for the safety of you and your buddies list."

Frustrating...

After uninstalling, go to program files, see if there's a folder called "AIM" or some variation thereof; delete that folder, then reinstall.

There's an option in AIM options you can check to turn off updates too. Try looking around there.

Thats terrible! I'm never upgrading. But then again, I didn't like the upgraded forums at first... but now, its all good. I guess some things just take getting used to.
