Vegetarians/Vegans?

Harashi

I AM NOT a vegan and I severely detest them, unless for dieting reasons, if for animal rights reasons well God wouldn't have made animals so dang tasty if He didn't want us to eat em'.

collaboration

Hahaha! I'm not one for the animal rights thing either, Harashi.

Commodore Axilon

All animal rights? Or just the crazy PETA stuff?

Knil

I do think some of the things that PETA does is wrong, like throwing blood on someone.  I STRONGLY hate the IDEA of fur, but I don't think anyone deserves blood poured on them.  Why do you severely detest them?  I DON'T CARE how anyone live their lives.  I won't get into any religion so please don't bring that into it again.  PETA  is not crazy, just a little over the top, sometimes.

DW

Okay, wait, I think I may have come across wrong. I have no problem with vegetarians. I'm not sure what a vegan is really, but I probably wouldn't have a problem with them either. I don't agree with their view, but I don't care if they have it. Just like different religions. We have a right ot be who we want. We don't have the right to try to make others believe what we believe though. So I stand on the same ground as HNS.

So, at the risk of sounding ignorant, what is a vegan?

bgrugby

Someone who eats no animal products at all (i.e. eggs, cheese, etc.).

DW

I can't imagine life without milk.

All animal rights. Animal welfare, that's entirely different. But animal rights and animal rights groups I find appalling. I'm not particularly interested in getting into the details with this as it's a massive debate and a pretty feisty one.

Shikamaru Nara-- It's not just eggs and cheese vegans eliminate from their diets. It also includes anything animal related, which involves a host of products, especially pre-packaged stuff. Even some types of sugar are removed from the strict vegan diet because certain types of processing and refinement use animal by-products.

Hi no Seijin

Sorry if this is off topic, but I don't like the idea of an animal dying just for their fur.  Honestly, if you're going to kill an animal, use all the parts.  Eat the meat, use the skin and/or fur for clothing, use the bones to make art supplies.  Just make sure you use up whatever you can.

wasn't waste what got the native americans mad at the settlers? you would think we would learn in all this time...

That seems a little harsh Harashi.  What have they done to earn your ridicule besides having a different view than you.  I don't agree with vegetarians either, but I don't detest and ridicule them.

Knil

I don't think you came across wrong Shikamaru Nara.  A vegan also doesn't eat honey, figs, etc.  That's one of the reasons I don't like the idea of fur.  Let me ask you a question HNS.  What if, hypothetically speaking, I tried to get you to eat meat.  Now I know your respect for me being a vegan would go away, but would you try to trick me by putting meat in my food?  I don't ever try to change people.  I just try to explain my ideas.

MasterKeyX

I agree with what HNS said, it better to utilize the animal if you're going to kill it than just waste it away.

PS- PETA annoys the hell out of me. They released an add saying that feeding your children meat was a form of child abuse. Um, psychotic radicals, no?

meat has no harmful side effects, did they state their reasons?

Um, I think you misunderstood me.  I'm not a vegetarian or a vegan.  I just don't agree with killing an animal for fur alone.  I think that if we're going to kill an animal, we might as well as use up all we can of it.  So if you were to try to feed me meat, I would eat it without a problem unless I didn't like the taste or if it was spicy (same thing as not liking the taste I suppose).  Perhaps you meant what if you were to try and trick me into eating a vegetarian meal?  Well, as long as it doesn't have mushrooms, zucchini, cooked apples, or carrots cooked to the point where they're mushy, I'll eat it.  Just because I like meat doesn't mean I don't like fruits and vegetables.  I love corn, especially if it's made from frozen corn instead of canned corn.  And I am a potatoe and pasta fiend, using up that energy to run up and down stairs.
