However, it seems that these events are quite unprecedented for Zelda sites. Perhaps this will be the only time we'll see this happen for a while?

We can't complain.  Technically what we're doing falls under copyright infringement.  If we tell that they're going around hacking our sites, and our sites in turn aren't legal in the first place, then we might get shut down as well.

Er, fansites aren't illegal. If we were making a profit off of the characters, that would be copyright infringement.

Though I'm not familiar with every law, I'm fairly certain that Nintendo wouldn't be like -SUE!- because we made a site in honour of a great game series.

Like Fisk said, we're not profiting from their characters or series, so we won't get in trouble. There are many many Zelda fansites out there. And great work Hiro! Did you take it upon yourself to call the authorities, or should one of us take action?

I contacted GoDaddy, and here's what I got:

They have been cracking passwords on Zelda fansites, most notably the repeated attacks on http://www.zeldauniverse.net/. Proof of this can be found by simply visiting the /i/nvasion section of the offending domain. They also have many pornographic pictures on their site, and repeated drug references. Thank you for your time and cooperation in this matter.

They said they have forwarded it. To who, I don't know. I find it rather funny that they gave me a a list of whois sites, when I specifically told them that I found theirs through a whois. Meaning I already know how. :P I have reviewed the name servers and WhoIS'd them. Didn't give me much info, but I have what I need. EveryDNS will be the downfall of these hacker fools. Somebody else, contact the appropriate authorities. This is what happens when you mess with Hyrule.

1. Unless it is detracting from sales, we are claiming it, or we charge money.
2. Nintendo doesn't care, even with fangames and people they could sue, because they are smart, and they know it promotes sales.

There's no doubt that there are much better hackers.  Remember the people who stole Half-Life 2 while it was still in development?  That's an example.
