what is the point of the binocular's guy that has the weird "ho ho!" thing?

I always wondered about him.  I would always try to find what he was looking at... then I would get distracted.

he helped u out when u needed to find the golden bomb ship!

The point is that he looks at something in the sea or island. For example, on Outset he looks at the headstone over the entrance to the endless pit full of monsters.

Sometimes, like on Horseshoe Island, he just looks in the telescope, nothing where he's looking.

He spot's a lot of "underwaterboats" and stuffo's like that! Try to look where he's looking.. Also it might be a lot of seagulls there and he's looking towards a Giant Squiddey!

He helps you through things you should get. Here is a couple examples. Once he will say. Oh my! oh my! there is a seagul! no two! three! i have never seen so many! When seagulls fly around an area, or follow your ship, it means there is danger in the water. Basicly he was looking at a giant squid. There is another part of the game where he says I hear there is some kind of container. Basicly he is telling you there is an empty bottle on the submarine his telescope is pointing at. When you take a picto graph of him, the information states that treasure always lies at the end of his telescope. Case closed.

yeah he helped me find a big octo and a sub, but once he just had a kaledascope (that was probably mispelled)

Yes, it was on Horseshoe Isle. The only reason he was useless on that isle is because you still have a chance for his figurine.

I really don't have a clue about that telescope guy. Maybe he's there to point out invisible obsticles?
